Your Final Cut Pro Mission . . .

. . . should you choose to accept it, is the following:

Tell me -- please -- what settings I need in Final Cut Pro to import 16x9 24p footage from a DVX100.

The backstory:

A local company loaned me the camera for the weekend, and I'd like to spend a few hours taking some test footage and getting that footage into FCP.

The problem is that I'm new to both the camera and FCP and would appreciate any advice.

Thanks, all.

Re: Your Final Cut Pro Mission . . .

24p?? Not 24PA??

24P -- just capture the footage with capture preset DV NTSC 48K.

Make a sequence that is the same.

24p isn't really 24. It's 30ish with a few frames pulled together to give it a stuttering 24 fps look.

Now... 24pA??? That's another story. Capture DV NTSC 48K advanced pulldown removed.

Good luck,

Re: Your Final Cut Pro Mission . . .

So I guess the first thing I do is hunt for 24PA on this menu . . .

Re: Your Final Cut Pro Mission . . .

Is 24PA designated by the words "Scene Advance," or is that something else? I *do* have it showing as 24PA on the LCD when I turn the "Scene File" dial to F6. (I believe these are user pre-sets, so not everyone's F6 would mean 24PA, but you CAN get to that setting by this dial, correct?)

Re: Your Final Cut Pro Mission . . .

I think it was F5 -- but doesn't matter. If you use it a lot I'd move it to F1 or F6 so you can immediatly be sure you are there and it didn't move on you by mistake.

If you are going to shoot in PA then you need to make sure you keep the whole tape as PA. If not, FCP will stop capturing and you'll get pissed off and yell here about how apple failed you etc.

Sorry

Anyway - There are some great sites with 24PA help... check some of the posts here too. Let me know if I can help.
