Your Favorite Documentary?

Ok, so I am sure that this topic has been brought up many times before, but, as you might imagine, Im new here, and still feeling my way around the site and such...Im curious what everyone here calls their favorite docs-The ones that have inspired you to move forward and work in the doc field, whats prompted you to go into film, etc etc. For the longest time, I considered Apocalypse Now my favorite film of all time, although, now that's being challenged by Harlan County, USA-The finest documentary I've ever seen, and as I said, possibly one of the finest films I've ever seen period....Kopple's capturing of the labor strike was incredible.....American Dream, also a Kopple film, yet another classic, her work is stunning.....Just figured Id see what others thought?

Some of my favorites:

Fidel
Realms of the Unreal
Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room
The War Room
The Execution of Wanda Jean
Super Size Me
Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price
Fahrenheit 9/11
Inconvenient Truth

.

Well,
I have watched about 30+ in the past few months - some of my favorites are:

Overnight, Spellbound, The Devil and Daniel Johnston, The Fog of War, The Corporation,
Children Underground, Born into Brothels, Super Size Me, pretty much anything by Errol Morris...almost forgot Dogtown and Z-boys : great editing and style! Oh yeah, can't forget Hearts of Darkness, maybe they'll put it on DVD someday!

The "Qatsi" trilogy, Not usually thought of as documentaries but they really are. History will show I believe that An Inconvenient Truth will be a high water mark in a changing of our attitudes and that is the most powerful thing a film can do. War Photographer was devestatingly good, required viewing to be a part of the human race. Harlan County, here we go, I can go on all day. Anyone else? Hey Alex Dias, how can I get a copy of Runners High? I'm in Oakland too.

Man so many....just to name a few American Movie, Inconvenient Truth, Planet Earth, Jesus Camp, UFO: The Greatest Story Never Told.

Not sure if anyone had the chance to see "The King Of Kong"-It screened at the Atlanta Film Festival this past weekend, I thought it was fabulous. Haven't seen as smooth a development of hero vs. villain in a documentary like that in a long time-

Also, one of the finest docs Ive seen in a long time, "Overnight"-The story of Troy Duffy, the brain behind Boondock Saints, and his ego driven, bi polar personality that effectively torched every bridge he had in Hollywood......

Thanks for the support.

Alex.

Man, I've seen some compelling docs, but I love to watch Hearts of Darkness when I feel like a shoot isn't going well. It'll bring you right back into reality.

And in my work, that's very important.
