Young, Broke and Handsome

In regards to Motions "recommended specs", you can throw that to the wind. I use Motion on a dual G5 with 1.5 gb of RAM and it's sluggish, and I've used it on the new Quad with 3.5 GB of RAM and even then it burped a little when you threw everything at it. Motion NEEDS a ton of RAM and a GOOD video card to run smooth.

I would personally go with a CRT monitor and a cheaper mattebox. I think a monitor should be high priority. Get a cheap DV cam and use that as a deck, then you're ready to rock.

Just a thought, isn't it recommended to install ram in pairs? I've heard you would be better off sticking with the 2gigs of ram (2x1gig or 4x512mb) made by the exact same manufacturer, rather than the 3.5gigs (3X1gig + 1X512mb). From what I read if its not in pairs (i.e. 2x512mb, 2x1gig, 2x2gig) the ram starts to conflict and actually slows it down. Maybe that's why it was sluggish for you. I run 2gigs (2X1gig) on a G5 2.0 and It doesn't seem to be too bad.

Well, in a Power Mac all RAM is installed in pairs. RIght now I have 2x512 and 2x256. I don't think you can install RAM without being in pairs in a power mac and have it work. I've never tried, I'm not that bold!

It's not too sluggish, but far from Realtime. that's my only gripe, but still better than AE.
