you wont believe what I caught with my dvx

Re: you wont believe what I caught with my dvx

haha booggerg love the bubb rubb avatar. He's my hero lol

On the clip, in larger tornados, there's usually a cloud of debris (flying 2x4's, cows, roofs, etc) surrounding it. Play with the particle generators in AE for this. Great clip though.

Re: you wont believe what I caught with my dvx

Great work Young. You just started learning the software and you've already created something that could be considered Sci-Fi Channel quality. Excellent. Keep it up.

I'm going to fiddle with the AE particle generators. Hey, sounds like something from Star Trek. "CAPTAIN! The particle generators are offline. We CAN'T go to warp!!!"

Re: you wont believe what I caught with my dvx

thanks for the suggestions Kai, are AE's particle engines powerful enough to handle such complexity? In all the particle effect examples I saw it just seems like a few basic "pixie dust" type things...

haha pk...speaking of which, it would probably be a fine choice to make your own shot of a beam me up scotty using AE

Not a problem, the lightening storms are so fierce around here I usually have my eyes closed in storms. I have been known to drive with my eyes shut for a count of 5, open them to get a look, then close them for another 5. I've been slightly shocked by currents going thru water pipes twice, and had two house fires as a child due to strikes. My apt got struck 2 years ago and everything got fried (2 tv's, one computer, vcr, dvd, cordless phone, and answering machine...and oh yeah, no renters insurance.) And tornadoes here are just the icing on the cake! GREAT clip!

Re: you wont believe what I caught with my dvx

geez - where the heck do you live???

also, I recommend getting a UPS (uninterrupted power supply) for your computer and other important electronics for lightning and stuff if thats a common problem, will save your expensive electronics

Re: you wont believe what I caught with my dvx

Northeast Florida... and in the summertime, I unplug everything before I go to work, almost everyday. Its a pain, but the safest route for me. Three computers, three tvs, three dvd players, two surround systems, two vcr's, phones, etc.... (I dont worry about it in the winter/fall) It would totally suck to get struck again, but those who know me know that if it can happen, it will happen to me.

:)

Re: you wont believe what I caught with my dvx

aha! FL! I applied to FSU's film school graduate program for fall 2005...where you live, is it a big place for filmmakers?

btw...was it like for you this past summer...with record hurricanes and all, how badly were you affected?

Re: you wont believe what I caught with my dvx

Its getting bigger all the time. We have a film commission that works pretty well with production companies who come scouting out opportunities. We get films like Basic and GI Jane, but there have been a few that I have recognized certain locations in. Also, before Hollywood was Hollywood, Jacksonville was THE filmmaking locale. This was back in the early 1900's.

This past hurricane season was a rough one. I still have a cooler on my patio that I need to put away, but it was my makeshift fridge for the longest time. It was wierd, like I was in a small store with a drive-up window and a guy at the window had a two way radio getting weather updates, and there was a report of two tornados...one where my daughter was at home by herself, and one a block away from us coming off the ocean. Terrifying, because I wanted to get to my daughter, but had to bumrush to the back of the store till it passed.

Re: you wont believe what I caught with my dvx

Hi Fred,

Yeah, I'm looking forward to doing storm chasing this Spring. Of course, I have two *major* projects ahead of that. So, It'll be a while before I'm able to prioritize it.

I checked out the link of your tornado chase. It looks like you've got a pretty cool setup for your laptop and dashboard camera. What other gear do you have or anticipate acquiring?

Terry

Thartley, I live in jacksonville myself.

Is there any community around here? I'm just getting into this stuff (just ordered my DVX from Rush at EVS) and would love to meet others into the same stuff.
