Oh yeah! I remember that... bring on the funnels!

Re: you wont believe what I caught with my dvx

That looked soooo scary! I'm way way WAY more afraid of tornados than I am of hurricanes! That is a super weird sight there, Young!

Re: you wont believe what I caught with my dvx

Whoa, nice footage.
The look of the sky reminds me of War of the Worlds.

Re: you wont believe what I caught with my dvx

sweet!

rezzie, nice avatar...thats one of my favorite movies ever!

Re: you wont believe what I caught with my dvx

aw dammit, you got me ;D

thanks for being scared of it thartley! its very encouraging ;D

Re: you wont believe what I caught with my dvx

If you siad you lived in Oklahoma...and it was July...we'd be less suspicious.

Nice work though

Re: you wont believe what I caught with my dvx

I can tell you where you went wrong: Footage was not shaky enough; top of funnel was unobscured by any cloud cover; funnel lit up too much by lightning; lightning strike did not persist long enough (fade slowly); car can be seen heading right for it; and finally, there were structures with lights on very near the tornado (power would be out). Those tipped me off...

...but the footage does look pretty convincing, so I looked at some east coast newspaper sites and, while there actually was a tornado watch, there were no reports of any seen. A tornado touchdown on Jan. 14 would certainly have garnered more attention.

All that said, you've got skills!

Re: you wont believe what I caught with my dvx

thanks fry-boy, you are right, I totally forgot about adding another cloud layer in front of the tornado! I got too excited heh, I actually did shoot some shaky footage, but I havent learned how to track in AE yet...thanks for the tips

Re: you wont believe what I caught with my dvx

Hah--I'd be excited too, if I was creating such a cool comp! AE is on my list to learn. Good luck on the tracking. Looking forward to more!

Re: you wont believe what I caught with my dvx

AE is easy man, I started learning it literally yesterday and have gotten the hang of the basic workflow - enough to composite this tornado scene!! you'll do fine

Re: you wont believe what I caught with my dvx

Lightning did not grow.. I just appeared with its full branches.. A real tornado would be hard pressed to be that clean(conical)

Also, a big lightning like that surely would have blown out the highlights the DVX was able to render.

booggerg- Your signature scares the hell out of me. Nice work!
