Here's the full version done elsewhere.
(there is a description of supposedly how he did it in the link)

I saw this a couple years ago and if he truly did it
the way the description read (which is the way I always thought as well)
its pretty lame, and I could consider it "cheating".

without looking at Rippie's link...if I had to guess...it's two people. The top half is a guy who doesn't have legs. the bottom half is another person with his torso area covered.

Obvious is obvious. But still fun to watch. This would have gotten people (back in the day) ages ago though.

O.K. one guy has no legs/arse andwhatnot.

And the other one? No head/torso - just legs/arse?

Like this one?

I still don´t get it.

yeah, same concept. The "legged" person has a full body...that outfit they are wearing is making them look 'cut off'.

Thing is, I think its a great trick. But I have to disagree with Rippie, I don't think its cheating. A trick is a trick. I mean, you'd have to think every magician is a cheat. Chriss Angel on the other-hand, I do not trust. I think he does cheat in that I think he relies on planted audiences and production/camera assistance to fool the t.v. audience. That's cheating, imo. Though, he's got some clever illusions.

But I have to disagree with Rippie, I don't think its cheating. A trick is a trick.

If someone is going to be cut in HALF during an act
I prefer it to be an ILLUSION such as David Copperfield and the giant saw.
Using someone that is ALREADY cut in half only to show that as a trick?

Same exact concept would be a magician taking someone born without a hand
and faking cutting his hand off.
Its cheating.

We can agree to disagree but let me explain where I think we disagree. Magician's use lovely assistants, hidden keys, extra keys, twins, fake coins, trick cards, rigged equipment, phony handcuffs and audience plants all the time. Is that cheating? No. It's what magicians do. They use everything at their disposal to perform the trick to fool you. Even if they take someone born without a hand and fake cutting his hand off. If you weren't savvy enough to think outside the box to speculate how he did the trick, by using someone with a hand already cut off, you have been fooled and the trick is successful. Whether David Copperfield uses someone who is already cut in half or a second person who maintains the illusion by wiggling their legs from inside the box, what difference does it make? It's a trick.

To me, cheating is when a magician relies on television production to fool his audience. If he is using cutaways, preventing you from keeping your eye on him the entire time so he can alter his trick set up, that's cheating. If he is stopping the camera to fool us, or using a full cast instead of an ENTIRE audience to pretend to be fooled, that's cheating. In fact, that isn't even magic. It's a television show. I don't know for sure that Chriss Angel relies on these tactics but I am suspicious of it. Some of his tricks/illusions seem too good to perform in front of a genuine live audience.

Rick, sure I totally understand what you're saying but as you said..
we'll agree to disagree.
There is no "illusion" when its "real" in my opinion.
That is the difference between using props and what this guy does.

When you say "..or a second person who maintains the illusion by wiggling their legs from inside the box.."
to me THATS magic. (in this case pretty obvious, but MAGIC none the less),
but when a guy without an ear has a plastic fake one in its place
and a magician pretends to rip it off and he "magically" made the guys ear disappear
leaving the audience in awe of "how did he do that?"
I'm sorry thats not magic.
Anyone off the street could pull off these kind of things.

Obviously my opinion.

What does that have to do with anything we are talking about here?
I thought this discussion was about magic.
Magic?

Well... I'd hate to be the one to tell ya.

Look. Illusion on screen in a film is the same as illusion on stage.
You pretend to do something in order to get an emotional response.

We all know when we see a magic show that it's a trick, just like we know when we watch a fantasy or science fiction film that it's a trick. If it's a good trick, we're fooled into going with it. Sometimes we stop and think about how they did it, and sometimes that's part of the show.

But it's all the same.

Cold hearted orb
That rules the night
Removes the colours
From our sight
Red is gray and
Yellow white
But we decide
Which is right
And
Which is an Illusion

This is my POINT.
Where is the TRICK or ILLUSION with a magician cutting the man in half
when he IS only half a man?

There is no make believe, nothing that had to be created in a shop..
no idea that had to become reality...

MY OPINION, its lame when instead of figuring out how to create the ILLUSION of a man
being cut in half you use a physically disabled person who
IS only half a man.

That is where and why I say its "cheating".

I never said it wasn't a trick..
I said it was lame..and cheating.

The make believe is that it happened on stage in front of your eyes.
You still create an illusion of a man being cut in half, because he's not really cut in half before the audience.
It's also about creating a show out of it. I bet it's not half as easy as it looks. Especially when you constantly need to renew that old gag.
