You know about the freelance bug?

It has gotten into me. Long ago.
Now a little vacations, many thoughts, I think it's time to roll it.
I'm a bit torn right now due to the security a steady job offers, but I think it's time to move on.
Any support is appreciated.

I think just about everybody I know who's quit to go freelance has had it work out for them in the long run, especially looking at the #s on this board.

I did so last year and it couldn't have worked out better. Things are getting better and better every month. Depending on how I do by the end of this year, the girlfriend is going to quit and start freelancing, too, so she can run all the business aspects while I just write and shoot.

Been freelancing full time for a few years now. I enjoy it most of the time.

Making my own hours = priceless. Buying/renting equipment = $$$$$

BUT I will say that the attraction of a nice full time job still has its place.... I hold down a part time gig shooting and cutting at the community college in my area. Work isn't glamorous, but it's in the field I love and the people I work with are great. If they offered me a FT position that made more than my annual freelance income, I'd take it immeadiately.

Freelance can be more exciting and adventurous– last night while shooting at the "Rock the Bells" tour, Method Man spit water into my camera. (it was only a little spray)

Freelance is also never a sure bet– some months if I didn't have my PT job I would not be able to pay my bills. Some months I'm able to save TONS. The summer is always better.

I've been steady-job-less for 20 months now, and I'll never look back. The work has snowballed to a comfortable amount. I'm not looking to get rich...just get enough work to live comfortably.

Personally, I'm spoiled to the point where I could never work a F/T job ever again. My time is much too valuable to waste away in some non-productive office. But, it's tough - sometimes the work gets thin...I've learned the best thing you can do is NOT stress about not being busy. Just find ways to be productive, and ENJOY the time off!!!
