You Can Do It. Here's Proof.

A broke filmmaker used his buddies credit card to buy the best DV camera he could find at Circuit City. He then shot a documentary, before the 30 day return policy expired on his camera purchase (free camera). He spent $1,100 of his own money (he had won) and now his feature length documentary is winnng audience prizes and is set for theatrical release in August.

If you don't have money and you don't know someone at Miramax, then all it takes is passion, a clever idea, and thinking outside the box. Here's proof you can do it too!

PK,

I have been following this story since I first read about the guy wanting to make a film about it. Can't wait to see it!

this looks really entertaining... gotta see it. curious, does anyone know which $1100 dollar camera from circuit city he used? i was looking around that site but didnt see anything...

pretty inspiring stuff!
t

Yes, very inspiring stuff but this is nothing new to me. I did something very similar but when I was slapped with a restraining order I had to stop production.

You know I just got an idea! I'm going to take it up a notch. I'm bascially going to ask Oprah to marry me then I'm going to two time her with Carrot Top then dump his ass and go for Jessica Alba. It could work!

ttt - He used the $1,100 for production costs. He used a friends credit card to buy the camera (and wanted to return it before the 30 day return policy expired).

Reminds me of when I went back to Homecoming Week at my alma mater...I sat in on one of my old film professor's lectures, and before the lecture one of the girls in the row in front of me was yammering to a classmate about how se'd just gotten back from a vacation in LA, where she'd run into Drew Barrymore, and had chatted her up, and Barrymore had basically said, "Yeah, when you graduate, come out to LA and look me up and we'll do something together..."

Wonder how that worked out. That girl's probably an associate producer now, or bussing tables. Fifty-fifty shot, the way I see it...

...or the girl was just pulling her shirt. Plenty of people like that in film, the way I see it...
