Yikes! Surely this is a lie?

I just got a message from a guy on Youtube asking me to work on FX for his Web series.

He sent me the link to the trailer:

After I politely refused him and suggested he learn more on the production of films, he replied with:

"Its not the best, you right. But it ended up in the hands of Clint Eastwood, so thats a start.. Thx for ur time."

Surely this stuff wouldn't have got to Clint unless your best mate has "Uncle Clint" or something? Or am I missing something? Maybe it is all about who you know? :Drogar-Kriz(DBG):

What do you guys think?

Without being too disrespectful, I feel pretty confident that Clint or even Uncle Clint would politely refuse to have anything to do with this.

Yeah that's what I think, however I feel Clint Eastwood was pretty random choice to try & make me regret passing up on it.

Where can I order the DVD? My guess is the crew was rounded out from Craigslist under the CREW section. You know- the ones that want you to shoot all day on your gear for "screen credit" and lunch.

i guess he was offended by your refusal and expected you to reply again along the lines of something like this "Clint Eastwood????? Did you say Clint?!!!! Well why didn't you say so! Look, I'll do it for free now that you put it that way!"

things end up in all types of people's hands, he may not have been lying, but so what? obviously nothing came of it so what difference does it make who saw it? lol

BWAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

This thread achieves my 2009/2010 LMAO Award.

I have a weapon far superior to the 'Clint Eastwood' card.
I call it the 'Hottie' card.
I always try to get at least two FHM girls in my movies, that way - even if the movie is crap - I'll have some top talent very excited to grade at highly discounted rates.

heh heh

Production companies at the Malpaso level aren't looking at material that comes in unsolicited. Did the Youtube guy mention having an agent that got it into the hands of Clint Eastwood?

That was really truly terrible, I'm sorry. I can forgive the home-made effects and makeup, I mean whatever they were trying, but the acting was just awful and presumably if this is a trailer that's the BEST acting they had to showcase? That is seriously unthinkable.

As for Craigslist crew, actually you can find a lot of great crew on Craigslist, but I'm not sure why because it's the producers who are 95% sleaze. I see all of the time, "Come work on music video with award-winning, veteran director! Pay is $50 for two days, must bring own makeup kit, great opportunity!" Ok if it's an award-winning veteran director, you could afford to pay someone more than $50 for two days of work, haha, wow.

But I found my go-to corporate cinematographer on Craigslist, he does great work and we continue to work together, and I even found my sales lady on there (not in crew, obviously) and she has been amazing, hard working, dedicated, intelligent, versatile. I've found very, very highly qualified people on Craigslist. What I have also found is tons of people trying to take advantage of cheap labor, making me wonder why so many talented, experienced people even bother going to craigslist to find work. I guess they just hope there's one person like me willing to pay a half-decent wage. I know some people here have rates I consider ridiculous, but trust me on Craigslist if you're paying a DP $300-350/day, you're in the top 2% of companies. Most people are looking for someone for free or for $100 or less per day. So at least what I pay is in the realm of reality ;)

Ok... it was what it was... a campy material meant for the web... But after reading through all the responses, this question begs to be asked... Where has civility gone in this world? One mans art is another mans trash. The guy obviously put a lot of time and effort into this... perhaps somewhat misguided and I'll leave it at that, but the guy is creating and putting his ass on the line. He should be applauded not trashed. This thread regretfully wreaks of arrogance and snobbery. Does this thread make everyone feel more superior now? No one here knows what his situation is, or who he knows. Maybe Clint did look at this.. good for him. Who cares? Everyone has to start somewhere... C'mon lighten up already...

That reminds me of a book I read years ago (1996) called "The Unkindest Cut" about a film critic who didn't believe Rodriguez could have made El Mariachi for $7K (at least the version he saw in the theaters). One of the chapters was called "My **** is Better Than Your ****." Whenever I read threads like this, I am reminded of this book and that chapter.

And yes, I applaud anyone who can get a film made, if they ask for a critique, I will give it. I think doing anything is better than waiting for the next piece of technology is going to allow a great film to be made. Great films have been made for a long time.

I was thinking the same.

The Clint Eastwood card is one thing, but laying into someone's artistic work is an application for a ticket on the Failboat.

Never forget that James Cameron was heavily involved in the epic grandiose masterpiece we know as 'Piranhas 2 AKA 'Flying Piranha'.

We all have to start somewhere!

Clint Eastwood card is still funny though. I lol'd at that one!

The OP was asked to provide VFX to the project for free. The OP declined, which is their RIGHT to do so. His refusal was followed up with the Clint Eastwood remark. It doesn't really matter whose hands the project got into or even what anyone thinks about the project. If someone doesn't want to provide their services for FREE they DON'T HAVE TO. For whatever reason they wish. PERIOD. I stand fully behind my post and if anyone thinks someone should provide free work to something just because someone else got off their butt and made something, then sorry but I will take issue!

Meh?

I just read through the whole thread again and it appears everyone is on team Craig.

*coughs uncomfortably*

I don't think anyone in this thread is trying to prevent the author from doing another film, or trying to put down that guy. I'm sure that everyone in this thread respects this guy and his hard work (or at least I hope). They are only having some fun at the outcome, which everyone does even with films that cost more and involve a way more professional crew (just look at some of theM night Shyamalan films and how people bashes his work) .
