Yet another shotgun mic thread!!!

Alright guys, I'm going to be doing a short film, possibly having to do with zombies... And I need a mic. Whats that you say, we're three weeks out? Who cares!

:D

So here's my question, I'm going to have this mic on a boom, and have a dedicated boom operator, so we're never going to be more than 3 - 4 feet away. We may have noise in the locations, and we may not.

That said, which mic would you prefer, SOLELY between an me64, and an at4073?

Also, why? Please don't mention the me66, i've heard tales of its legendary tinniness, these are the two I'm considering. Pros and cons are appreciated, AND DONT TRY TO SABOTAGE ME SO I LOSE THE CONTEST! :D

Oh my God, no comparison. Go with the 4073. It blows the me64 away.

Oh...

"Snake handling is for sissies. I'm going to start a religious sect where we prove god protects and watches over us by randomly punching bears in the face."

This is really fricking funny. I lauged out loud. This is one of the best signatures I've seen in a while.

Awesome, thank you! I've ordered the 4073 from B & H. God knows I wanted to order from evs but poor rush (the cust service at b&h just DOESN"T compare man) was out of them.

Unfortunately I HAVE to have this mic this weekend or else I'm screwed. I'M SO SORRY RUSH!!!!!!!!!

And btw thanks Dave, I'm glad you like the sig :D

AT is the right choice between those two, hands down. The mention of 3 to 4 feet though is disconcerting. You need to get right up on the talent, less then a foot, but no more then 2 if pushed. Your boom guy needs to constantly push the edge of frame or your audio will be weak. Also noisy locations will kill your audio no matter what mic you use.

Best of luck on the contest :)

With that mic 3' will be okay... the reach of the AT is gonna' shock you... at 2' you can turn the gain down and get a more intimate sound... I always try to boom within 2' of the mouth, but on wider shots you're gonna' be 3-4' anyway.

Report back after the weekend... I expect you to be blown away.

Oh yeah, make sure your cam is at -50db inside 'cause the 4073a is hot-hot.

Wabbit's also right that if your location sucks with ambient noises there is no mic that'll fix that anyway.

Just the fact that you even asked about those two mics together tells me you have no idea what you're in for... woohoo are you gonna' be surprised.

Lucidz dude, please don't worry about it!
Thanks for even giving me a chance. That is more than I can ask for. I really appreciate it.

Hey rush, I hated ordering from someone else, I have a strong sense of vendor loyalty. Dont worry my next purchase will come to you guys! Hopefully I wont be in a crunch next time.
