Yet another question on what to buy

Hi, I'm new here and to film/video sound. I do have experience with recording/live sound for bands. This is frustrating in a sense, since I have lots of money tied up in equipment that is almost but not quite suited for video sound. Before you ask, I will be recording in a mix of indoor and outdoor settings. Tentative future projects indicate a 50/50 mix indoor/outdoor, of both dramatic content and of some less controlled settings (documentary). I'd love to be doing dual sound, but for now, I will be recording to camera (dvx/pd150, hopefully more of the former). I figure if I hit the lottery, an SD722 will replace the SD mixer in this first round of equipment, and if not, I might add a recorder down the road.

I'm looking to get a package that consists of the following:
- Boom pole (from what I've heard, the k-tek alu avalon is a good buy)
- Rycote system
- SD mixer (would like to get a 302 but might end up with a used MixPre to save some cash)
- mic(s)
- sony 7506's (already have)

My questions are twofold. First, I already own a pair of Schoeps CMC6's, 2 mk4 (cardioid) caps, and a mk8 (fig 8) cap. Obviously for film/video sound, the mk41 is the way to go with the schoeps. It also has been suggested that using a cut1 is highly recommended. By my count, this will set me back about $1200 (new). Which (opening a can of worms) is about how much a Sennheiser mkh50 is. This is also the region that new/used mkh60's and 416's are. Right now the budget is around $1200 for a mic, the question is which one? I'm tempted to get a mkh60/416 since the price is right and it will give me some flexibility outdoors, but will my indoors suffer that much?

I could of course snag the hyper instead of the shotgun. As sweet as the schoeps are, I wonder if the mkh50 is a smarter move for the same price, especially considering it will be my primary mic for a bit and will be used outdoors. I've read about the humidity problem with schoeps and have heard some say its pretty much nonexistent and others say it is real. I'd rather not take a chance at this point in time. Later, I WILL have the mk41, but I'm thinking it might be nice to have 1 mic that will perform in a given situation if the schoeps gets nasty.

So, schoeps or mkh50 or or mkh60 as a 1st/primary mic?

Secondly, the mount/windscreen. I'd like to get the Rycote system, and it is budgeted for. Would I be better off with something else? What about indoors? Take off the zep and stick some foam on the mic? Or go with a softie type setup? In the future (with both a hyper and a shotgun mic), I was imagining a Rycote zep for the shotgun for outdoors and a hyper with some other less extensive mount/windscreen for indoors.

Hope this is coherent. Thanks a bunch!

Re: Yet another question on what to buy

Someone please show me where you can buy the Schoeps kit for $1,200. I keep hearing people quote this price but every dealer I have checked with charges a few hundred more.

Re: Yet another question on what to buy

I think you misunderstood my price quote. It breaks down to $500ish for the cut1 and $780 for the mk41 (ok so it should be $1300). I already have the cmc6 body, which would run you another $700.

For what its worth, if you go used, you can knock this price down considerably.

Re: Yet another question on what to buy

Forget the Cut1, just get the mk41 cap and then pick up the 416 used for about another $700 and u got yourself a pretty sweet mic combo for $1400.

The Rycote is good. You won't need a softie for indoors.

good luck.
