Yet another CS5 Sandy Bridgebuild! Around 1500$.

Dear all,

I jumped the gun and bought a HMC151. My laptop has no problems supporting CS5 and any other SD project, but the use of an AVCHD cam forced me to think of an upgrade. After some searching on the web, I read that many editors suggested a personal build. I haven't touched hardware in ages, literally, so I am really rusty.

Gang, I would really appreciate it if you'd take a look at what I came up with. It will probably work like a charm, but maybe I missed something. As a reference, I used this list of CS5 benchmarks (could come in handy for you also!) Could you check out my creation?

  • Cooler Master CM 690 II Towers € 65,-
  • Intel Core i5 2500K Boxed Intel Core (This is that Sandy Brige thingy) € 194,-
  • Asus P8H67-M EVO Socket 1155 mobo € 110,53
  • MSI N470GTX Twin Frozr II € 232,-
  • GeIL Value PLUS GVP3 16GB 1333C9QC € 165,89
  • Western Digital Caviar Black WD1002FAEX, 1TB Serial ATA € 76,-
  • Western Digital Caviar Black WD5002AALX, 500GB Serial ATA € 49,97
  • Sony Optiarc BD-5300S Blu-ray Disc Writer Zwart € 109,30
  • Corsair HX750W € 124,95
  • Total @ € 1.127,64

So, what do you think? Will the hardware be compatible? If you spot something, let me know!

Rgrds, Chris

What type of videos will you be making? Short clips or full length videos with effects?

Will you be using After Effects?

To put it in perspective, I have a DUAL quade core Xeon 3.0 with 24GB RAM, a SAS RAID0 array, and a GTX 470 and AVCHD is slow for me when I edit weddings.....not mention when adding effects with AE.

The folks responsible for those benchmarks would recommend staying away from Sandy Bridge until the higher end models show up at the end of 2011. For now, the i7 950 and an X58 mobo is a good place to start for AVCHD editing.
