Yet another camera question

Hi guys
I am looking to buy a camera. The dvx 100 is too expensive for me right now.
I was hoping if someone could explain the difference between the dvc 30 & 80.
How good is the cinegamma on the 30 and does it offer 24p.
I have seen the dvc 30 on various sites for under 2k and thinking of going that route.
Any suggestions would be most helpful.

Thanks

Re: Yet another camera question

No 24p on the other ones. Not sure how 'good' the other ones are. So....

What's your budget? Can't hold off for a DVX100? What are your intentions with the camera?

Dude, you live like an hour from Athens, where they give out guitars (and Grammys) on the street . . .

My budget is... at the max 3k. I am basically looking for a good camera that I can "practice" with and make a little $ with on the side.
I also saw that the camera has 30p; how is this a different "filmlook" than 24p. Is the image the same or...?
I also wonder if I can find the "old" dvx(no a) for about 3k.

thanks, guys

It is not true 30p. It's "interpolated" much like the "Frame" mode in the Canon cameras, and it's not the same thing. Not as good.

You should be able find a used, excellent-condition DVX for about $2500. Just be careful.

Not just "like" frame mode, exactly like frame mode, because it IS frame mode. Frame mode is a Panasonic invention, not a Canon invention. Canons have it because they use Panasonic chips. Frame mode first debuted on the AG-EZ1/PV-DV1000, back in 1996, a year before the XL1 showed up.

Frame Mode is a way to simulate the look of progressive-scan, but results in a drop in resolution (results are similar to, but higher-res than, de-interlacing). Progressive Scan beats it all day long, but Frame Mode does deliver a sort of filmish look... certainly much more filmish than regular 60i video.
