Yet another 24P question, but....

Just got some footage from a film I'll be editing that was shot in 24P Advanced, in squeeze mode. I was on set for this days worth of shooting and was keeping tabs on the technical protocol. The DP had the camera set for 24PA but had not saved this scene setting, and subsequently it switched back to 24P when he went to change battery. Later when I went to do a check on the camera with him to make sure everything was still set correctly we noticed it was in 24P. So we fixed the problem and everything else they shot will be probably be fine. But there was footage shot in 24P and when I logged and captured all the footage, some came in as 29.97 instead of 23.98. Now I've experienced issues in the past where footage that was shot in 24PA failed to do the advanced pulldown on capture and I had to remove it manually in FCP. So, I highlighted the 29.97 clips and manually did the Remove Advanced Pulldown. All the clips went to 23.98. This seems strange to me. I know some of those clips are 24P normal. Will it change those clips to 23.98 regardless of whether they were shot with advanced mode? I thought it would only change them if the clip was in fact shot in advanced.

Any suggestions?

They will not work with the Remove Advance Pulldown tool unless they were 24pA. So perhaps even when you thought you were shooting 24p you were actually still shooting 24pA.

The easy way to tell is to take a shot you think is 24p and look at it at 29.97 before running the Remove Advance Pulldown tool. If you see an interlaced frame only every fifth frame when stepping through frame-by-frame it's 24pA. Otherwise it's 24p and something screwy is going on. :)
