YES! Finally got my D80!

After many weeks of struggling to find the "right deal" I finally found it. I just picked up the Nikon D80 body, MB-80 vertical grip, and 4G card for $900 new. I also decided to pick up the 18-135mm f3.5 to start out with, hoping to grab the 70-300mm f4.5 soon. Can't wait till it arrives!

Awesome! It feels good, don't it? I use the D80 myself and I'm having a blast. I picked up the 70-300 too, loads of fun. The 50mm 1.4 or 1.8 is a must too, great for portrait work. My MB-80 is in the mail, still waiting on that. By the way, the bulk scares me, does it really add on a lot of weight?

getting ready to go pick up my d70 from the office in a few minutes! I went with the 18-55 to start with - the 70-300 sounds nice, I'll have to look into it. The 50mm 1.8 is on the list as well, just havent gotten around to ebaying one up. Expect pics from me as well soon.

Sweet...Finally. I have the D70s with the 18-70 and a 70-300, SB-600, and the 50 1.8. Let me tell you I will swear by the 50mm. It is one of Nikon's sharpest lenses.

JDAJDA just to let you know you might as well by the 50 1.8 brand new because it is so cheap. I talked to many people and they said just buy it brand new since it is only 127.00. Another reason why is because people use the heck out of them, beat them up, and then sell them on eBay. Be careful with that! Plus if you buy brand new you are covered under Nikon's warranty!

Agreed. The 1.8 brand new is the way to go and I rarely use other lenses, it kicks arse. Got it new from a dealer for a hundred bucks.

I do like the 70-300 too but I rarely find the time to shoot with it. I have a camping trip coming up though, so count on some shots from that.

Hey Gizmo, how's that SB-600 treating you? Does the bump to a 800 really make a difference you think? I haven't decided which to buy yet.

Well to tell you the truth, if you already have a D70 or higher you already have a commander which is on your camera. The SB-600 is amazing and I will swear on it. The SB-800 is an extra $100 and I didn't really think I needed it. If you take a look in the Nikon Forum there are some pictures I took with the 600. Let me know what you think.

Yeah, i'll agree with that. Lens wise right now I just have the 18-135mm f3.5 Next i'm going to pick up the 50mm 1.8 and then after that comes the big dog: 80-200mm f2.8 with a 1.7x teleconverter. I shoot action sports, so the long reach is definitely a must. I'll probably be shooting all day tomorrow!

BTW Alveraz, the bulk of the MB-80 is great. It may sound like a pain, but the extra mass makes the camera feel so much more sturdy and professional! Also, the vertical shutter release is a great feature. It's really not that heavy at all either.

woohoo this is so much better than shooting film! Just fired off a couple hundred shots of the dogs in the backyard - am posting a few favorites to the ongoing nikon thread. Good to know on the 50mm 1.8 - I'll just buy new, hadnt investigated prices much. Will be getting a sb600 (or 2 perhaps) soon to play with as well. I cant say enough about how fantastically easy to use this is! Now to figure out what all these extra buttons do... guess thats what the manual is for...
