I go into the FCP, Avid, and Premiere sections (especially the FCP) and read all the crap they have to go through to use 24p (advanced and normal), to mix 24p and 60i on timelines, etc., etc. -- going out to third-party programs or plugins, doing cumbersome conversions, sometimes needing more hardware -- all while telling each other it's a snap . . .

And I just smile, widely, because I use Vegas.

Amen, brother! Maybe it's just that I'm lazy, but I'd think people would want to go through LESS hassle.

I love Vegas as an editing program, not just for the 24p/pa! But what happens when the HVX comes out...?  :engel017:

You can already download and use the DVCPRO codec, so you can edit DVCPRO. You can't capture it, but if P2 works like it's made out to be, you'll already have the files "captured."

In any case, if Sony is smart (and with Vegas, they've been very smart), they'll have Vegas DCPRO-native when the HVX comes out.

And yes, Vegas is a kick-ass editor.

..you want me to go ask the developers? I know a few people there since back when it was Sonic Foundry. they cant always leak though.. sometimes theyz lipz iz sealed.

as far as 24p workability it seems that vegas really got it right the first time.. the rest of us "other" NLE users will have to wait till the next upgrade or version to smooth some stuff out.. but i can rest easier knowing adobe says that PPRO will fully support the HVX then as well at least for some consolation. id assume vegas will as well.. those guys are pretty on top of stuff. seriously, i might stop in there and just ask them.

k, ..i know what you mean.. i was really worried about PPRO support. id figure though that if adobe was good enough to do it.. the sony chaps likely have it specially optimized for it by now... i'll try to stop by sometime this next week. traffic stinks through there right now due to construction, so ill make it a joint trip when i have to go nearby for a quick shoot downtown. hopefully ill return with some good news.

PPRO actually (in my opinion) has the 2nd best 24p/24pa support. Vegas is hands down the best. Just import and that's it. I think the dumbest thing is removal via firewire. I just don't see a point. Vegas's support is simply the best. Drop it in and it's done. Also, Vegas is extemely solid, another reason I switched. Then I found out about presets such as 16:9, 1.85:1, color correcting presets, etc... I mean... it's genius. I still miss the 2 monitors though. And the fact that you can only increase the speed to 300%, etc... small stuff... which mostly all have workarounds.... But Oh well.... Vegas is AWESOME!

You can actually increase the speed to 1200% in vegas. Is that not fast enough for you? But can you ramp the speed in Premiere? :)

haha

haha

okay i obviously dont know what i'm talking about then haha. how do you pump it up to 1200%. That actually isnt fast enough. Bring on 2400%!!!! seriuosly though, like i said, i like Vegas best. Great editor. I'm still learning how to use it, but it's great.
Scharky, oh yeah? well can Vegas screw up your 24p footage in a 60i timeline like premiere does? huh? huh? Does Vegas give you that beautiful flicker/strobe in overexposed/bright areas? huh? I thought not!!!! :)

I'm just playing around. Don't kill me....

Yes,yes,YES!!!!!

Go into clip properties and change the playback rate to 400%. Then use a velocity envelope to speed that up 300%.

Or ctrl-click on the edge of the clip and drag it in until it's 400% speed. Then use a velocity envelope to speed that up 300%.

Thanks David. This topic has been covered to death. I should have searched. Anyways... sorry but thanks!
