Y-Splitter for XLR out?

Any reason I can use a y-splitter to provide dual outputs from my mixer to both my camera (HVX200) & my field recorder (Fostex FR2)? Is there a problem with splitting balanced output XLR's?

Sometimes yes, it can be a problem. The two inputs end up connected in parallel to each other combining their impedences and that can cause strange going's on. But it can't hurt anything to try it and see what happens. Double check your mixer - perhaps it provides a second set of outputs on an unbalanced tape out or mix bus you can use to feed the second device. (Love my SD442 with 3 pairs of balanced outs plus an additional unbalanced stereo tape out, all isolated from each other!)
