XP pro 64bit

hey all.. I'm thinking of getting a new computer and was wondering if there would be a big difference, proformance wise, between the XP pro and XP pro 64bit. I'll be using Sony Vegas for editing. Thanks..

That, and from what I understand, you don't get any benefit out of a 64bit OS unless you're also running a 64bit program. Since Vegas is still 32bit, you'd see no improvement.

There was a press release out about a year ago, that announced a Sony Vegas 64bit version that is coming out that will work on Vista 64. Does anyone have any insider information from NAB yet?

No, it's a 32bit app. I still recommend to not go for 64bit. Version 8.0d fixes a lot of 64bit related bugs, but it's still 100% not foolproof.

Running Vegas on a 64 bit machine with 64bit Windows can give Vegas more room to operate in (it isn't constrained by losing memory to the video adapter and whatever other apps are running simultaneously). With 32bit Windows, everything needs to run inside 4GB of RAM. 64bit Windows isn't as easy to get running on a machine though (less driver support available, etc.) and can create some compatibility issues.

What get me interested in Vista64 is that I dont want to reinstall all over again when the 64bit edition of vegas get here.

Eugenia what have been the biggest bugs with vegas after the latest patch?

thanks for all the great input! I've received my computer 2 day's ago with XP pro 32bit. I havent put anything on here yet. Do I need to configure it to run faster with vegas(ie background apps running)? I'm hoping to get the Canon XH A1 in a couple of weeks and i was hoping my computer will edit HDV with no problems.

Also id like to know will there be a difference between XP Pro and XP Home when running Vegas ? Like better speed and reliablity ?

Vegas Pro 64 bit TBA at nab 2008.. see below

Charlie will also talk briefly, with Dave Hill, Sony Creative Software VP of Engineering, about the emerging 64-bit Vegas Pro technologies which will be demonstrated at NAB, and released later this year
