XP fading in to the sunset...

If your laptop has a PCMCIA slot, and runs vista home, can you off load P2 cards efficently? i neeed a on site small p2card offloading laptop.

I really don't see why some many people trash Vista, I've been running it for close to a year now without a single problem. The only thing that I had troubles with was for maybe the first 3 weeks I had a hard time finding sound drivers for it, other than that not a single problem with it. I find it runs better than XP was.

I agree that it's probably just people afraid of something new... do you remember what it was like when people were switching from 3.11 to 95? Obviously it may have some bugs in it, just like any other new OS, but it's still gonna be better than XP. Welcome to the future....

Oh, just 3 weeks? Doesn't that bug you? That's not acceptable to me. The sound driver issue was just one of my Vista issues. I found a good solution though, install XP!

Yeah it did bug me, but I was also using a pretty old soundcard so it was kind of expected. I just downloaded drivers for a different kind of soundcard that worked for the time being, but now that I've got the proper drivers and everything. I'm lovin vista, and it's run so far without a hitch

I don't see anything in that report that is Microsoft's fault.... lack of driver's for Vista is entirely on the manufatures of the various hardware not Microsoft (nVidia card doesn't work, nVidia's problem not Microsofts.). And it's not the fault of Microsoft that a computer was labled "Vista Capable" that's misrepresentation by the manufaturer of the computer not Microsoft.....

Why don't they make a decent NLE for Linux?

I feel a great demand for such.

I admit I was a bit vauge. There are many very nice NLE's for Linux, but most of them are not professional-grade. Cinelerra and yes, Jahshaka are two closest, but neither are on par with Sony Vegas, FCP, or Edius.

The #1 problem for me (who uses an HVX) is that there isn't any DVCPRO-HD codecs for Linux. Sadly, there isn't a version of Raylight for Linux, so while I can use Wine to use Raylight to convert my MXF files into Raylight AVIs, I can't actually do anything in Linux with those AVIs, as none of the NLEs will read them (since they depend on Raylight...).

With a bit of funding, and another year or so, I think either Cinelerra or Jahshaka have the potential to be real contenders. But not just yet.

Maybe so, but that still leaves you the consumer up a creek. You buy a new computer that doesn't have functioning sound. And it's underpowered graphics card can't even run the OS properly. I'll just stick to XP for now until things mature.

back to the OT, I understand Vista is the new "XP", but for most uses XP serves my needs just fine, until that changes using XP can't be a bad thing (even if Vista is available)

I swear to god....

You all know how much i hate Mac/PC flame wars right? im just saying......

They are pieces of metal and plastic thats it.
