XLR input question??!!??

mmm

I am waiting for the HVX200 to arrive and am stuck with my Canon XM1/GL1 until then.

What is the best way to use a Sennheiser MKH 60 with this camera?

Is a phantom powered beachtek my best bet? I don't want to spend much, as it is only temporary! I am tempted to just buy a DVX100 but seems silly with the HVX sooooo close! What other options are there? Has anyone got anything for sale?

Many thanks, in advance...

Mike

I don't recommend this brand, but Behringer makes a pretty affordable small mixer for like $80 or so with a single XLR input and you could probably take the unbalanced 1/8" line out or maybe even the headphone output.. This advice defies everything I believe in for getting good audio, but since you said you have a MKH-60, I figured it was worth mentioning since you had a good mic already.

Hope this helps.

Throw out a crazy idea. You might consider the SD 722. You get 24bit/192 kHz recording. Non-linear so you can post and sync instantly.

By the time the HVX comes out you could sell the 722 used for a couple hundred bucks less (house I bought my 744t from had a pretty generous standing off to buy back mine for even better then that). I would predict that by December you will be addicted to 24/96 recording and never want to go back. :)

Probably not what you were looking for, but I figured I would throw it out there.

Why offer a $2600 solution to a $100 fix?

Stated it was "probably a crazy idea" for his situation. But it actually would be a couple hundred dollar solution, as I pointed out you could sell the 722 in December for say $2200(I just predicted he would probably not want to).

He asked for other options. No harm in exploring all the boundaries.

Thanks for the response!

...forgot to mention... I need to phantom power the mic too...

A (more expensive beachtek) can do that but is there something I can put inline? I have seen AC powered systems but no battery ones.

This justs needs to tide me over cheap jobs, where I can't afford to hire a camera, so doesn't have to be acoustically definitive.

Thanks again guys!!

Mike
