XLR extension barrel for short mics

Hi there,

in the Fuzzy little criters: K-Tek vs Rykote thread it was mentioned that an extension barrel can be mounted to a small mic like the Oktava MK-012 to be able to use it in a bigger windshield, thus avoiding the need for another expensive windshield if you already have one for a longer shotgun mic.

I was wondering if there are any downsides to using such an extension barrel (to me it seems like an ideal solution), and where I can buy one (maybe somebody knows where to find one in Germany or what they are called in German, that would be great).

they are called the same thing, visit any music or pro audio store - you are looking at a male to female xlr barrel adaptor.

there is no real downside other than the fact that you are trading off the small size and light weight of a mic on versatility of your windshield. this can be a problem in tight spaces if you want to work indoors with the windshields suspension mount.
