XLR covers?

I lost one of the XLR covers. I realize they are unimportant, but it is still upsetting me greatly. Any chance you can order these dumb things?

Re: XLR covers?

Pretty sure you can. I wouldn't know who to call, but I know they saw that happening a lot. Should have never given them to us in the first place. Now we need them there. :D

Re: XLR covers?

I know, it's ridiculous, i've already spent like an hour looking in my room for this thing and i'm going to the last place i shot tomorrow to look around.

Re: XLR covers?

..you know whats funny. i lost one of those on a shoot once, and it was in the middle of downtown, on a rainy night, and we were at about 5 different locations walking between them. but i had this premenition that i knew where it would be. so i went back the next night. i went into this parking garage where we had been. in the still rainy and dark night of the next day, and walk over to this one car, and just looked straght down , and there it was. right at my feet. i spent 20 sec getting out of my car, and walking over to this one spot, and then put it in a zippered pocket, and went home. anyway. i was thinking maybe you should just have a premenition, and automatically know where it is too. that could help. otherwise you could just call up panasonic service.

Re: XLR covers?

IAL... hands down the funniest, most off-the-wall person on this forum.

Re: XLR covers?

..that did actually seriously happen though.  i was really astonished, and happy on the way home. but i kept feeling my pocket on the way home to make sure it was still really there, and hadnt disappeared like some sort of desert mirage

Re: XLR covers?

Pooper, call up the Panasonic parts depot (800-833-9626), describe what you're looking for, and they should be able to hook you up even without a part number.

Re: XLR covers?

So whoa whoa whoa...hold the phone...other than aesthetic benefits, these rubber things do NOTHING?  Dust or moisture or something can't get inside the holes and damage them at all?? Good to know :D

Re: XLR covers?

Mike.. technically moisture etc can get in there, and degrade the contacts.

Re: XLR covers?

Here is a link to Panasonic's service department for parts:

Panasonic.

I checked out that link at the top of the page as well. Entered "ag dvx100" and clicked on search. The XLR cap you want is part number VJF1468, and according to the website, it costs $10.94 US.

Re: XLR covers?

I put a strip of velcro on top of the lens shade and put velcro on the XLR covers and lens cap...it does help a lot for not losing the things.

Re: XLR covers?

I think I lost the XLR cap on my Input 2 jack the second time I used the camera. Maybe it's me, but it didn't seem worth the effort to look for it--let alone pay $11 for 6 cents worth of plastic. They'll probably tack on another $6 for shipping :-). Don't most of us have a mic cable plugged in most of the time when using the camera? I've never had any problems with bad XLR inputs on field equipment and I don't remember ever seeing a protective cap.

Re: XLR covers?

I think you are right. In another life I worked a lot as a
live sound engineer and all this equipment used there has
thousands of XLR-connectors which are never covered.
Ok, mixing desks don't get carried around a lot but still they
are in use at open air festivals, in clubs with lots of smoke
and humidity and still I never had any contact problems in years.
The XLR-connector on my DVX100AE are made by Neutrik
in Switzerland, they also make the connectors for all the
high-end audio equipment.

Re: XLR covers?

I work for a TV network and have never seen an XLR "fail". They are used in professional applications for a reason, cheap and reliable. By the time these babies fail, it'll be time for a new camera anyway! That being said, if I lost one of my covers, I'd go crazy :-)

The brain does some weird stuff. When I was 17 I wrecked a car . . . years later I found the tape which was playing at the time. Suddenly, a line from one of the songs flashed through my head. When I put the tape in and pressed "play," that line was the exact spot to where the tape was wound.

I lost one of those stupid xlr covers today and for some reason it's annoying the hell out of me. I'm obsessing as if the lack of an almost useless piece of plastic would be a deal breaker were I ever to sell this camera.

I can just hear the potential buyer now, "Well, the camera's in great shape, but... no xlr plastic cap thingy. I just don't feel comfortable buying this now." Damn those silly covers!

bought my DVX used...and it was already missing the covers. I'm actually glad they are not there, because to me, its just a pain in the a*s to have to pull them back everytime i want to plug something in. Yes, i can be VERY lazy.

Even worse! I lost a mic mount screw...

Even worse! I lost a mic mount screw...

Took the mic holder off my DVX to get it balanced on the Merlin. Lost one of the screws.

Doh!
Suggestions?
