XLR Cable Length

If I was to buy a 50 foot XLR cable for a shotgun mic to run from my camera straight to the microphone, would this work? Would I need some sort of extra device to amplify the signal or is this a perfectly realistic situation where I would only need the camera, the cable (50 ft) and the mic?

Re: XLR Cable Length

50 feet is nothing - you can work even with 150 , the only annamy that you have when you working with long lines are electricical cables and other ac devices -hmis , 63 amp power lines or strong rf sources which can add hum on your sygnal , another annamy is bad connectors between cables -so irt alwais better to run one cable and not to add
for long runs use starqwod ( 2twisted par and shield) balance cable
