Wanted to order an xlr cable for the NTG2 mic but not sure which one I would need. Is it the male XLR to female XLR? Also I read on dvinfo that some xlr cables dont fully click into the mic, does mean that only specific cables will work?
Male to female XLR is correct for this and other standard XLR microphones. The female end goes to the mic and the male end to the source. If you have a male source, then you'd need female to female, but never male to male.
You want male female. I have about two dozen cables and all click in fine. I am sure there are some that don't. Order from PSC or Trew they will get the right cable for you.
Rode has started putting blue rings in the XLR connectors on their mics in order to tighten up loose XLR connections. If your XLR cable doesn't fit, just remove the blue ring with tweezers and your cable should click right in.
