XL1s progressive?

This has bugged me for a while..

either Canon uses false advertising our people on this site are wrong...

Can someone explain to me exactly how Frame Movie Mode works on the XL1s? I shot an entire short film in this mode, I was led to believe that it was a progressive format. But I have read many things to the contrary, people say it is "faked" progressive, if someone would enlighten me that would be great.

to me my footage looks a little soft, almost as if it has be through some sort of field interpolation or something..

If it is indeed faked.. the XL1s brochure blatantly lies..

Re: XL1s progressive?

The Xl1s can shoot in frame mode, not actual progressive. ( I have never seen an advertisement that said that it did shoot progressive).
It is indeed a field interpolation or deinterlacing that is going on, which is why it looks soft.
Maybe you were thinking XL2?

Re: XL1s progressive?

ok so they didn't use the word "Progressive" in the brochure... but then again Progressive is merely a marketing term that only exists because we have interlaced video..

this is what I meant:

I guess the words "Non-interlaced frames" threw me off...  I say this is a misrepresentation of what the camera actually does.... they should have said it shoots interlaced then interpolates to get 30FPS...

This is taken from the Canon XL1s brochure by the way... I was most disappointed when I read here that it was fake progressive.. although it finally explains the fuzzy image quality I was getting.

and PS: no.. I was not thinking of the XL2.. I am not braindead...

at least I like to think I am not..
