I recently got a copy of Vegas 7, and upgraded it to 7.0e, im trying to capture some HDV footage from my XH-A1, windows recognizes my camera and asks me if i want to capture using Vegas7 , but when I try to capture all of the buttons are greyed out and i cant capture anything, I've shot a lot of SD stuff with the camera and its captured fine into Vegas but HDV wont work???? i've tried 24F and 60i and neither will capture for me?

any help would be appreciated

Hi,

You might want to check the menu in the Canon to ensure that it is talking to the computer.

I don't have the camera, so someone else can chime in.

BTW, HDV Split works like a champ to capture your content, so you could capture away until you get that snag figured out.

My best.

Hummm. If it is the camera... HDV Split wouldn't talk to the camera either. Boy, I'm not the sharpest tool in the box...

since it captures and reads SD material from the camera fine, does that rule out the possibility of it being the camera? could it be my pc specs, im working on an older computer, a Celeron D 2.4 with 512mb or ram?

im really just trying to figure out if its my camera or my pc ?????

Hi,

Not necessarily. The DV specification on the camera might be talking to the computer correctly, but the HDV might not.

Check your menu on the camera to make sure that it is HDV out.

yea my Camera is set to HDV (says the blue LED on the side) and i've looked through the menus and im out of ideas ???? i've tried changing just about every setting with no luck, anyone with the camera have any ideas?? and no luck with HDVsplit neither :-(

I don't have my cam in front of me, but put it in VCR mode, and go into the menu and check your playback standard. Make sure it's set to HDV. I think I had to change a few setting to get HDV capture to work as well.

Just a guess here, but are you using the internal or external capture in Vegas? Default for DV uses the external. HDV capture in Vegas needs to use the internal. I'm not at my computer right now, and can't remember how to change it, but I'll check on it as soon as I get home.

all i know about the capturing of the video is, when i click "capture video" a box comes up thats asks me if i want DV or HDV , SDI, and i click HDV/SDI. and then it tells me there is no device connected?????

Well, you can pretty much forget 24f -- Sony doesn't support it.

As for the 60i, if there's something Canon implemented which is different from Sony's version, then it's probably a support issue, too. But then, I had no problem capturing 60i from an HV20.

thanks for the help everyone, i think ill just stick to SD for now until i get it figured out or a chance to try it on someone elses pc
