I managed to score an hour with the XF305 and took some photos of the changes made on the body from the XH-A1. Have a look and post what your ideas are!

Brief verdict from a XH-A1 owner:

  • Power on/media button has been moved and changed to an early EX1 styled button with off switch in the middle. Very light and touchy.
  • Shooting mode dial on side of camera gone
  • Full auto switch
  • White balance preset activation buttons grouped together
  • Shutter on/off and set button switch
  • Audio channels have a lock function?
  • Servo zoom seems to have a smooth acceleration when you shoot it forward giving nice graduating zooms
  • Button on lens that allows you to slide the focus into infinity mode.
  • New buttons on body that turn on Waveform etc, this activation hides the audio levels so you cannot do both.
  • Manual zooming seems to have a centimeter of non movement as you start turning it making it hard to slowly zoom from wide

didn't realize it took CF. I'm typically very skeptical of canon's dedicated video line, but CF is a step in a good direction.

Its a step. Clients could have their own CF cards for a low cost. High data rate in camera instead of a flash nano is also great. Screen and VF are amazing. Too many options for lens and issues with "manual" zoom.

Thanks for the pictures. I think the power switch is better than the original EX1 b/c it looks like it has a stop pin which locks it into the off position. It looks very much like the power switch on the Sony Z7U, you have to push down to turn the camera on to cam / VTR*, but to turn off you just have to slide it & it locks in the center. The EX1 didn't have that little lock & so it was easy to keep sliding back & forth from cam to VTR to cam to VTR.

*or media, or playback, or whatever it is called

It does have a "lock" but I ended up doing the button shuffle to get it to rest in the center. It feels very light and touchy. Pity they left out the standby switch on the power. I used that with my thumb to switch it on and off fast!

Have not been able to explore the media mode as I do not own CF media.
