xenon bulbs

I just check out some lighting fictures a HD and they had some small fixtures with Xenon bulbs (described as "brilliant White Light")

Does anyone know how good these bulbs are for video?

I've experimented with some of the 35w ones. You'll need a minus green filter as the CRI is very low, in the 60s in some cases. Plus the color temperature is off on some. We'll use them when I can discover a more consistent one thats in the ranges we need in CRI and color temp.

Just FYI, those xenon lights are not the *same* as they use in film.... the actual gas may be Xenon, but are not anywhere near the same build, size, or power of the film quality bulbs.

In fact, Xenon bulbs which are used in film are much larger and under HUGE amounts of pressure! When electricians change the bulb they have to wear a type of face protection, a light body shield, and thick gloves. This is to protect them if the bulb 'explodes'.

I'm just saying be prepared to not get lighting results on par with the big brothers of real Xenon fixtures.

Interesting, I didn't know Home Depot had a Xenon bulb. Next time I'm back in the states maybe I'll take a look at it. I have my doubts though because usually the smaller wattages under 70w are hard to make in a good CRI. What was the wattage of the bulb you saw? Also did it include a ballast? You'll need a ballast to make any Xenon or other type of HID bulb to work.

I'm not sure of the wattage. They were just small "puck" lights that would be good for accent lighting, etc. I just want to make sure they won't mess with the picture quality, like mercury vapor or sodium lights
