Hello all,

I'm looking for a monitor to use with my HVX200+M2 setup.

I don't have the money for the Marshall!

Basically I'm looking for a decent monitor for framing and some quick focusing when running and gunning. That said I come from a film background so I'm used to pulling tape anyhow so the monitors biggest duty will flipping it's self upside down so the OP can frame.

I found this Xenarc monitor at Geardear.com and it seems to fit my criteria. Just curious if anyone has used it or can throw in their 2 cents on other inexpensive monitors.

Hi

with a converter a cable from radiospares or digital connection, it is as good as the marshall.

If you're french, as you're name suggest it, look on www.repaire.net/forum in the panasonic section. search for xenarc.

I tried it...and it was more hastle then anything. Powering it was a pain, cables were a pain, transport was a pain. I bought the Marshall...a pain in the pocket but damn it works wonderfully.

What made powering it a pain?

I really don't have the money now or in the near future for the Marshall.

I just need something to use for now, in the future after a get some more rental days I'll being looking to step up.

Thanks

Sure, if you cannot create your own wires, it must be a pain. But take a look to wikipedia and search for "component output" and "rvb cable" you 'll find the scheme. And power supplies can be bought though.

I followed the InventiveDave solution, in the "perfect monitor" thread some of you mentionned, and I improved it.

Sure, it's quite heavy (as the Marshall actually). But it costs me only 700€ (and we're not cheap here in France, in the US you can afford the same product for 600$, 472€ , ) two hours for the rvb cable, and 10 minutes to buy a combined power supply.

Now, the only left with the Xenarc (and it can be done) is a battery mount. It costs 100 more $ to have it. So the complete solution is here in France about 850€, and in US.

So, I've got a 800x480 7" lcd with only 2 cables for half the price of the Marshall...
and you can buy some cheap boxes from "emd music", for about 40€.

All you need is:
2 Mini D Ribbon from 3M (14 and 20 pin). Don't look to hirose cable, except for the scheme.
2 Dsub HD 15 pin from 3M
Don't forget their "boxes" and the cable itself.

Hi Baddack,

Very interesting - so what are the actual parts (part names and numbers if you can) that you used. Do you have any pictures or detailed description? For power, I'm considering the Tekkeon MP3400 to go to both the FS-100 and the monitor (reduce the amount of batteries on one unit) - perhaps that might work as a power solution for some.

actually, i haven't the number on me, they re at my work. I 'll send you these as soon as i can.

to go to both the FS-100 and the monitor

wow, that's so obvious i didn't think of it... one power s upply for the three...
I don't know this supply, mine don't have a name...
