X264 Codec in Vegas 6.0?

Hello folks.

I just installed the x264 codec for windows. It shows up in the codecs list when setting up an .AVI file, but every time I try to render it says: "The selected codec does not support the current render setting" or something like that. I've tried with a load of render settings. What am I doing wrong?:undecided

I had the same issue. It doesn't work, as far as I'm concerned. I asked around on the videohelp forums and the response I got was "Well, I thought it worked..."

Nero's H264 conversion is good if that's what you need -- but if you need H264 from inside Quicktime, as far as I know, that can't happen at the moment.

It worked at first, when I downloaded QT7 pro -- I had no problem rendering H.264 Quicktimes. However, people who downloaded it later couldn't, and I STRONGLY suspect that I was able to do it because I had downloaded the Windows beta version -- and in the production versions to follow, the Apple H.264 codec was inhibited so that it couldn't be used . . . not necessarily specifically in Vegas, but in anything other than QT Pro.

usually when you get a message like that when rendering, you are trying to feed the codec something it has no idea how to handle. This is not always the case, but most often it is. An example might be if you were rendering out to a non-standard resolution that isn't evenly-divisable by 4 or 8. Some codecs will choke on that. Other times it could be something as simple as sending the codec an interlaced format when it can only handle progessive scan. Or a frame rate it can't handle, or non-square pixel aspect ratios. These are just examples, I'm NOT saying this is your problem, but might I suggest playing around with some of the settings, trying to render, and if it doesn't work, tweak something else, and try again.

Well, good luck with that whole "play around with the settings." I tried it ad nauseum...
