X-Men: First Class

I wasn't too excited when I first heard about this, and Matthew Vaughn as director didn't quite seal the deal. But now that I read this, I'm interested. Seems we're going to get a 60's period piece Superhero flick, with totally faithful costumes. This I want to see. And January Jones in spandex is enough to get me in the theater.

I'm a purist when it comes to adaptations so I have not been happy with much of what they have done to my beloved X-men...... though hearing about more original/traditional costumes and.....the hellfire club makes me very excited. Though I'm not sure I'm going to like how they integrate some of the charters into the origin story of the X-men who were not originally there, however I can get past that as long as it's done well.

Here's to hoping they get it right this time.

The Bond-esque thing, if done well, could work. (It did in "The Incredibles." :) )

I am not a purist when it comes to X-Men, because the comic has re-invented itself and its backstory so many times that I've lost count; but I find it funny that the guy who had a line in his first X-men movie making fun of the more traditional costumes ("You were expecting yellow spandex?") is now touting the old costumes as a plus.

Similarly, I've had no problems until now with the way that they've used characters from many different eras of the comic all at once, but... they may be going too far on this one for me.

Oh, and just for the record--the Hellfire Club didn't show up until the 70's. So it has no "swingin' 60's" street cred, sorry, AICN.

Why is he making Xavier British again? That was one of the major incongruities of Stewart playing him.

I didn't care that Xavier was British before, cause I'm a sucker for Patrick Stewart chewing some scenery. :D I don't think I've ever seen McAvoy in anything, so I don't know if he'll be good or not... but if this is supposed to be a prequel to the existing movies, I suppose they have to keep him a Brit for continuity.

It's not just about the accent, though. It's that the character is distinctly American. It always struck me as odd, because I thought he got the other characters right.
