Honestly, I liked the stand-alone episodes better than the conspiracy episdoes.

Agreed. My favorite of all time is probably "Home" from season 4.

That episode scarred me for life. :crybaby:

Jose Chung's "From Outer Space" takes the cake for me for favorite episode. The Conspiracy episodes get a little hard to swallow when you realize that they're never really going to answer the questions they're posing. But the show on the whole was very good, if a few seasons too long.

I welcome another X-Files movie. Duchovney needs the work. :)

This is a constant discussion I have with a buddy of mine. He prefers monster of the weeks, while I prefer the episodes that tie into the over-arching story. I'm the same way with Buffy, Lost (Though I gave up on that piece of dung, because the writers have little more idea what's happening than I do), even with Farscape: whenever they get away from Scorpius chasing Crichton for wormhole knowledge, I got real bored. I JUST started watching X-Files, and same thing. I prefer the ones that tie into a bigger story.

But I think my take is largely influenced by the fact that I never watched any of these shows in prime-time. I just about NEVER watch TV. But I came to all of them on DVD, where you can sit and watch them all back to back and it's easier to get a sense of the over-arching storylines.

I agree. I loved the stand alones better than the conspiracy ones. I sure wish Morgan and Wong would write this new movie. Carter is good, but Morgan and Wong are the ones that made the great ones.

I loved The Host, Beyond the Sea, Squeeze/Tooms, Humbug, Home, 3, Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose (personal fav). I could go on and on.

The conspiracy story-line got bogged down by its own mythology and psuedo-intellectualism. The stand alone episodes definitely carried the show later in the run.

As for another movie... I didn't think anyone still cared. Then again, there's Clerks 2 so maybe....

Good storytelling is never passé. Some of the X-Files, especially the earlier ones, were like excellent short films that transcended television, and the majority of actual films being made at the time.

I just recently, within the last year started buying the Xfiles seasons on DVD. Now that I'm all filmified I watch them from a different point of view. They're even better now.

If they make a movie I hope they pay homage to the early XFiles episodes. Focus on Mulder and Scully. To hell with Doggett and Reyes. They should also shoot it in Vancouver and get out of smoldering LA for an XFiles movie. A big part of the Xfiles identity was the Vancouver area.

X-Files flick? About time. I miss the X-Files. Miss it so much that my two short movies are about conspiracies. I'm working on a third short (shot in Fuji Velvia 50D ASA super 8 film) also about a conspiracy. Trying to get it all out of my system.

I totally dug X-Files. Once of the best show's ever to hit television and the motion picture did not dissapoint. Bring it on !

Although both David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson have long professed their willingness to return to X-Files

Ya think ?

Yup, some of the X-Files episodes were classic. Others were real crap. It was amazing to me how a show with a really good creative force behind it could fuddle itself up by trying to be a lot more intellectual than the show's original premise was.

Big X-file fan here....I predict lukewarm box office at best....in today's age, a couple of years on the shelf is a lifetime. I was in Best Buy today and noticed they've repackaged the X-file season offerings so they cost $42/season vs $80plus in the earlier release.

Yeah those cheaper Xfiles packages are good too. Although it is nice have the bonus discs in the $80 sets. I recently bought season 4 in the new slimmed down packaging.

Ought2bCommitted: I agree. The later seasons became so idiotic and far from the greatness of the first few seasons. My favorite seasons are 1-3, 4 is still pretty good, 5 has some good episodes but for the most part starts getting a bit dumb. Once they moved the production to LA from Vancouver it was all over. My best friend and I argue about that. He insists that the later episodes are superior. Then I have to threaten him with bodily harm for saying such blasphemous things. kidding. That's like someone claiming the new Star Wars trilogy is better than the originals. Ludicrous!

I think Wong, Morgan, and Carter should write the new movie together. I want to see something intense and not so politically correct. Wong and Morgan always knew how to push that envelope.

now, whats the difference in packaging other than 1 or 2 less discs? are there still special features like making of's and other documentaries or did they take them out?

i'm a huge X-Files fan as well... i loved the tv show.. some nights i watch the marathon they have on TNT from midnight to 6am. i loved pretty much all the episodes. one of my favorite tv shows ever IMO

I'm excited for this since they've said it will be more like a stand alone episode and not deal with the conspiracy.
