www.jpbankesmercer.com - New website

The initial page could have been done in html & css. You decrease the risk of a lost sale, esp. since your page has no script to detect Flash support and version. This has implications to a buyer.

Aspect ratio of photos makes them look kind of funky. Might crop those to the dimensions you need without changing the ratio.

It's a nice site, but I agree with J Micheal, not a good idea to do sites in all Flash for compability reasons. Maybe do a HTML version and let the end user choose or, at the very least you can add an intro page telling the end user they need Flash (and what version #) to view the site and provide a link to download the Flash player.

I disagree. Do not do an entirely flash site if you are not an experienced programmer/designer that knows how to make a website work on both platforms, and have the resources to shoot between mulitple browsers on OSX and Windows based computers.

There are TONS of all flash websites that A) Load quickly. B) Run smoothly on all browsers (netscape maybe not lol). C) Are practical. Constructing an all-Flash site with a target output at Flash 7 or MX will pretty much put you in everyone's home, as most browsers have already been updated at least to that version of Flash Player.

That being said, if you're going to do a Flash-based website, better sit down for a few weeks and learn the ins and outs. Not saying that you don't know what you're doing, as well.

Site Notes:

No Loading bar -- you need this. Seems like you have a large .swf file there.

File size -- Is the file size large?. Did you create the site in one .FLA file? Are you using .AS to call seperate flash files and your images? I had to reset my browser (on a Mac) to get it to run right.

The main issue with Flash sites are that they are not universal by any means. They do not share the same capabilities as using CSS to create a site that works for people with disabilities, bad vision, hearing impaired, so and so forth. Plus, no Flash site can be close the 100% compatible for all computers/platforms/browsers, whereas with CSS you can pretty much guarantee accessibility.

And I agree, there are lots of well done Flash sites, and they are great eye candy, and some even have good content, but Flash is a dying breed amongst real web designers/programmers, and for people in the creative field, I would suspect one would want to be at the forefront of enabling contect to reach every end user and in the most universal way possible, not lagging behind it.
