Ok, I just watched Mad Hot Ballroom for the first time. The story was engaging but wtf happened to the image? There are ugly jpeg-ish artifacts in nearly every frame of the film, especially around titles. I'm really disapointed that the film didn't really showcase the DVX's capabilities in terms of image capture. I know, I know, it's a documentary, but still. its too bad. anyone else notice/have thoughts about this?

first, where did you see it? DVD? cable? i saw it in the theater and don't remember anything like you describe.

Hey guys- it was on digital cable. I had no idea that could denigrate the image like that. What accounts for that? There are reviews of the DVD online also that make note of it also.

The dvd cut is probably off the film transfer instead of going back to the original digital file. So it went dv-to-film-to-dvd.

This is good to know for final output of my own projects. Learn something new every day!

Sometimes they really compress the hell out of the digital cable programs. I don't know why. I honestly don't think there's reason to, but I've definitely seen that to be the case on some shows.
