Wrong G2 model?

Hi Guys,

I've just bought a Senn G2 with the ME2 mic, but have a horrible feeling that I should have ordered it with the ME4 mic.

I was hoping to use it for a documentary, but it picks up every noise around it! Guess because it's omni!

I've tried dropping the sensitivity right down to -30db which helped a bit, but it can still pick up background noises and other people talking.

Is there something magic that I'm missing or do I need to go back to the shop with my tail between my legs and tell them I ordered the wrong one?

Any help would be great. 8)

Re: Wrong G2 model?

Cardiod lavs are a total headache, you want an omni (most likely).

No mic isolates your speakers voice completely. You are just using the inverse square rule to get the mic closer to your speaker then other BG sounds. To truely make it so your speaker's voice is only thing recorded you have to stop all the BG noise ("QUIET ON THE SET!", turn off the HVAC, refridge, etc).

Dropping the sensitivity down unneccessarily will add more noise into your final mix.

Good luck
