Yet living in such splendor does have its drawbacks (Earthquakes, Drive-bys, Corrupt Cops, Landslides, Wildfires)
Don't forget, we've now got new and improved tornados too!

yeah....Antomic....I forgot about the Tornados. So much has changed. I lived there in a much simpler time. But the Great days of 1997 have come and gone. :) ~reservoir~

Well its kinda funny the amount of paranoia in this country. I guess the fear of the cold war was replaced with the fear of the terror. ( fear/paranoia has to go somewhere) There is a writer, Mark Crispin Miller, he is an independant non partisan writer, and he talks about propaganda, and paranoia in the US. good author to read if your curious about media and its effect on people.

This poor kid is a perfect example of an irrational amount of fear of attack in the midwest. Though not to say, the midwest has never been attacked, ie. Oklahoma city. But a kid writing fiction, arrested, its like the orwellian nightmare come to life. Its sad, i pray for him. Because according to the logic applied, even fiction is threatening. I guess the antagonists in books have to battle paper cuts or clogged drains from now on, since they are not allowed to write about human to human confrontation in kentucky.

But honestly, you guys, moving to canada isnt gonna help, thats just abandoning the problem. I persoanlly would rather stay and try to fix than just run at the first sign of trouble. This isnt an attack on anyone, just my personal preference.

I guess the thing that concerns me is that many on this forum have expressed an opinion about this event from a newspaper or magazine article. The people directly involved with this that have first hand knowledge of the events are in a much better position to decide what coarse of action should be taken.

It can be easily argued that if one or more of the Columbine murderers where arrested for some of what they wrote and prior behaviors there might not have been a massacre. We have freedom of speech, but that does not mean you are free to write or say anything. You cannot walk into a crowded theater, yell fire, and then simply apologize to those that were hurt or killed by telling them that it was just a joke.

Sure, I was pissed off after reading the article but there is probably much more to it. I’m still pissed off that I have to take off my shoes at airport security because some mentally deranged idiot tried to blow up a plane with a shoe bomb.

ChuckS brings up a good point. From a purely detached point of view we rip into stuff like this. It was my first reaction, even though I don't know the kid, or his background. And maybe this could be the best course of action.

But what scared me is what if this started to happen everywhere in the US to every person who wrote a zombie story. That would really piss me off. If it happens to one, what to keep it from happening to the rest?

Besides common sense of course, because who has that anymore.

Common Sense. Now why would anybody want to use that in this day and age. That's what we have the Media for....to make our decisions for us.....like what to watch, what to eat, who to like, who to hate, etc. Common sense went out the window when CNN became a 24 hour news outlet.....aka......"Headline News".......then came the other clones like MSNBC and on and on. If there's anything important enough to know.....I'll just turn on CNN and let them be my guide. They would NEVER lead us astray!! ~reservoir~

.....*Update*.......I'm writing this from an undisclosed location....or at least that's what the NSA is telling me. I was given one phone call or 5 minutes of internet access.....Obviously you can tell what I choose. Just wanted to ask all of you to keep me in your prayers and hope for my speedy release. Apparently I was arrested under suspicion of treason and digital-terrorism. All my belongings were seized and I am now a political prisoner being held without bond and charged with crimes that were manufactured by the Patriot Act. I will make contact again upon my release. How long was Kevin Mitnick held without trial.....?? Keep Hope Alive. ~reservoir~

PS - HA, HA....I fooled you guys.......I'm not really in jail.....I'm at home sitting in front of my computer just chilling.....I really had you guys going....!! What a bunch of suckers......Oh wait.....hold on......Someone's at the door. I'll be right back!!

lets not get political here..

but chuck is right . theres likely more to the story than meets the internet eye. I certainly wouldnt think he was wronged if the "fiction" was thinly veiled reality, and his excuse/cover for writing about the things he would like to do was to make people zombies so it would be "ok" for him to exhibit it through his writing. it all depends on things that we cannot determine here. ..if the story was only a thin cover it would almost be the same as writing something saying all the ways your going to massacre some ducks when everyone knew you reffered to your workplace as a place full of "sitting ducks." i personally wouldnt have a problem if someone stepped in and checked your head for a while. on the other hand if its a truley ficticious story that has no ties or any real weight or bearing with any real people then of theres probably some injustice there.. all said and done .. us here chatting about it really have no idea.
