Writing shorts

I was once told that features are just twenty shorts strung together. The point was proven by watching random chapters from feature films. On their own each chapter would have worked as a short film. So I guess you could say there is some point to mastering the craft of writing shorts.

Thanks a lot. I'm glad you found it and are enjoying it. We just starting to be discovered by filmmakers and it's very exciting to see these scripts go into production.

Being about 30-35 pages away from finishing my first feature script, I'd have to say that the 3-4 shorts I've writter were easier. It might just be that my years as a copywriter have trained me to write lean, but the character development, subplots and just overall need for internal logic are much more difficult to maintain in a feature.

Of course, I get much more excited reading over my feature than my shorts. Hmmm, that didn't sound quite right.
