Writers seeking writing partners?

Hey Everyone,

I'm a writer who's new to screenwriting and new to this forum. I've got a number of original screenplay ideas (all of them brilliant of course), one in particular that I'm particularly jazzed about, and now I'd like to find a writing partner.

I've searched around on this forum a bit (admittedly maybe not enough?) and am wondering if there's a specific area devoted to writers seeking other writers.

If there isn't such an area on this site, can anyone suggest another site?

Thanks!

Done Deal Pro has some pretty active screenwriting forums.

Also, while there have been a couple of posts here in the past soliciting writing partners (one comes to mind), I'm not sure how serious they've been. If you have some experience and are actually committed to the craft, I don't see why you couldn't find a writing partner here. The main problem I'd see is that there's no pre-existing bond between you and a stranger on the forum.

Check-out Ted Elliott's wordplayer column on writing partners (if you haven't seen it already): http://www.wordplayer.com/columns/wp18.Me.and.My.Ampersand.html

Good luck.

Eximious, Thanks!

I'm going to check out those links right now...

And yeah, I hear you on the "pre-existing bond" thing...I always assumed that there would be some kind of "courting" ritual to this.
Whatever it takes for this Lennon to find his McCartney!

Thanks again...

For a variety of reasons...

Mostly because I love being able to bounce ideas back and forth with someone else. I like that "fresh perspective" factor where they, your collaborator, come up with new ideas, directions, etc. that you might not have thought of on your own (and vice versa).
I find that I can work pretty creatively on my own -- up to a point -- and then I start craving some fresh air in my little creativity bubble...which is where I'm at right now with a particular project.

There's also the feedback factor too.

Having said this, I'm aware that I could (and probably will) solicit some suggestions, feedback, etc. from the talented members of this forum...but I'm a wee bit apprehensive about just how much of my screenplay idea(s) I want to release into the public domain, for obvious reasons!

So that's why...

Black - just post over at donedealpro, there's always someone looking for a writing partner or someone to read pages of a script. Post five pages in their script section and see what kind of feedback you get, it's the first step into throwing yourself into a shark infested pond, you'll feel better for it.

The first time I posted my pages, I actually got a pro to give me feedback (Max Adams), so it's something I won't ever forget.

One thing to keep in mind that I've noticed on screenwriter-centric message boards is that a lot of people will make suggestions for improvement just to make suggestions (change for change's sake). There will be a number of people who will, with the best of intentions, tell you that you should make all sorts of changes that may or may not actually be in the best interests of your script.

Same goes for the writing workshops I've attended. A person who can critique well is a rare treasure indeed.

As I'm sure you know, feedback is to be absorbed and used as a tool to suit your needs, it shouldn't be adopted wholesale.

Oh hell's yeah! Believe me, I've got a clear sense of where I'm going, and what will and will not work with my storyline/characters. If I hear something I like, or that makes sense to the story, then I'll think about incorporating it. If not, then not.

But definitely thanks for the advice!

I live in San Carlos, CA, by the way...
