write-on effect - handheld footage

Hi,
i have some footage and it needs to have diffrent colors drawn onto it, and i am trying to use the write-on effect, which works great for static shots, but this is a handheld shot, so is there a way to get the write-on effect to stay with the motion of the footage, instead of staying in the same place on the composite?

I thought of using paint effects, but then i would have to redraw the lines every frame, and my mouse drawing skills arent that great...

let me know what else i can try...
thanks!

If possible, I would track the motion of the hand held shot and then apply those attributes to the write-on effect layer position properties. If you are unable to use the tracking tool, then you would probably just animate the write-on effects layer's position property frame by frame. I would avoid trying to move the actual "lines" in the write-on effect to match background video.

Hope that helps a little.

Man!
what a dumb moment i had... i was trying to apply the motion track data to the brush position attribute, no wonder it didn't work! man...
thanks guys!

ok,
maybe i am as dumb as i'd thought...
i have tracked the motion and applied it to the position attribute layer that has the write-on effect on it, but is there a way to get the write-on effect's brush to follow a mask or a path i have drawn over the line? because the write on later now movies with the footage, but now i need the brush to move....

To get the brush to follow a path on a layer is pretty simple. Draw the path you want the brush to follow using the pen tool, then hit "m" to expose the mask shape. Highlight the mask shape property and hit ctrl+c to copy. Then go back to your write-on effect, and highlight the brush position and hit ctrl-V to paste.

alright, the more i work on this project the dumber i feel... but i copy the mask shape to the brush position, but the brush isnt where i drew the mask, sometimes it's way off the footage, drawing on nothing, and sometimes it's right near the edge of the footage so only part of it gets drawn on the footage. how do i fix this?
sorry for all the stupidity...

Is the layer in 3d space? If so, write on will be offset...you gotta click the write on effect then double click the layer to see the write on position in the layer window and adjust it there.

EDIT: Double click the layer to open up the Layer window, then at the bottom there is a drop down box where you can select what you want to see, select write on and reposition it there.
