Wreck-It Ralph

I'm pretty sure this is gonna make a lot of money just based on the meta-fanfilm that it is.

I could name every IP in that AA meeting in the blink of an eye, and as droll as the trailer was I'll probably be there opening night.

Saw this tonight. I enjoyed it, but it's definitely a family film and not the love letter hard core gamers might be expecting. Despite a few early references and excursions into classic video game territory, most of the film takes place in the candy colored game Sugar Rush which is designed to appeal to young girls. My daughter loved it, so in that sense it succeeded. But I think some might be turned off by how young the film is pitched. As is, it has some funny in jokes, great voice work by John C. Reily and Sarah Silverman, and a couple moments which were surprisingly emotional. I also thought the rules of the gaming universe were well thought out and consistent.

Saw it yesterday, I thought it was great. Being a hardcore gamer for most of my life, I of course would have liked more retro references, but I understand they wanted to appeal to more people, especially modern kids that probably haven't played most of the games referenced. I did grow a little tired of the Sugar Rush world after a while, and wished they could have gone into one more game to keep things fresh, but that is a minor complaint overall. Excellent voice work all around, some genuinely funny moments, and and overall good time.

Haven't seen it yet, but in honor of it, I made a concerted effort to unearth my Coleco tabletop Donkey Kong game, which I haven't seen in probably 20 years.

I did manage to find it.

Saw it last night, and I agree and then at the same time I think there's a ton of references even in the Sugar Rush game aka Mario Kart 64. haha

Every single track in the SUgar Rush game, most of the mechanics, all are Mario Kart references, especially the (SPOILER ALERT) hidden wall, rainbow road, power slide that Vanellope does to pass King Candy (END SPOILER ALERT).

That said, I was expecting a more gamer-centric experience, was over that pretty quick and enjoyed most of it. DEfinitely some pretty strong emotional moments, and a good chunk of the movie where I had no idea where the heck it was going. After that was over, though, it was pretty A grade.

The ending was very good. Notably so.

Oh Man, mine only lasted about 2 months before the joystick crapped out and thereafter going dead. That was a great Christmas that year, at least for a little while...

It still works, though there's discoloration. Not too bad for a 30 year-old toy which spend most of its time unprotected.

OK, just watched this. I, too, would have liked to have seen a little bit more celebration of the 1st-generation arcade games, but that's OK.

Loved - LOVED - that the credits ended with a Buckner & Garcia song written especially for the film.

Didn't like this one much at all. I'm a gamer and did like some of the references though.

Was a solid movie but for me at least didn't have the humor to keeps adults attention.

3/5

I dig it as a storytelling teaching tool, if nothin' else. I told the wee Callaghans going in to their first screening to note how EVERTHING plot-wise is there for a reason...
