WOW! New insane anamorphic lens being shown at NAB?

Have you seen this new lens yet?

I've always been looking for something like this. I hope they come out with the version for Nikon soon! Looks like just for Canon DSLR right now.

Here's some test footage I found on someone else's channel:

wow! same day that Pentax announces a full frame camera, and Vitaly goes to work at Panasonic! amazing!
(if it's a real product, they didn't think the release date through)

I'm pretty sure this is real - can't wait for it - beautiful ultra-wide shots (with great 2x anamorphic-flares) and no distortion - should be great!

^ How do you know there will be anamorphic flares and no distortion? I have a feeling, if this is even real, (which I am doubting, since they chose the worst day to announce a product), the strange design won't be giving the same results as 2x anamorphic elements do in typical anamorphic lenses.

It just seems that anamorphic aspect ratios do not benefit today as they did in yesteryear when proper anamorphic capture and proper anamorphic lens projection was the norm. Most people won't be capturing in anamorphic and leaving it squeezed (in HD 16:9) to be unsqueezed during projection by a projector with an anamorphic lens. Thus if you are just going to unsqueeze in post and letter box, you might as well just get a lens of the equivalent horizontal FoV and letter box it to begin with. People don't use anamorphic like they used to, and thus the advantages are simply of vintage design qualities such as mild distortion, oval bokeh and lens flares. Only 1% of those shooting anamorphic do so for widescreen presentation without resolution loss. The rest (99%) just letter box and what's the diff? It's why so many anamorphic films are actually shot spherically at 2-perf or letterboxed-S35mm.

Is there only one focal length? How would that be very helpful if shooting a narrative film? Seems like a good lens for the occasional use by an event videographer who doesn't have any wide lenses to match the horizontal FoV...

Speaking of FoV, the video presenter really misses the math. He says it offers "nearly double" the FoV of an otherwise ultra wide lens.... which I translate and just under 2x FoV... however the graphic shows what is likely around 3x in scale.

This FoV is obviously more than 'nearly double'... try just about triple.

If you take the sample images they provide (Venice Boardwalk, Warehouse, Girl in Field) you'll see the aspect ratio is more along the lines of 5.20:1. HD video is 1.78:1... so a 2x anamorphic lens on 16:9, which I have done many a times, ends up being 3.55:1. A 3x anamorphic lens would deliver 5.33:1, and is much closer to the images they present.

Oh, since I've gone on my tangent, have I mentioned how this could be an April Fools joke on all of us? I just don't turn down a lens discussion, even if I think it is a farse. I just like talking about lenses that much.

I think its real. It will not be as cool as you think, I bet that it will only focus at infinity and will have a non adjustable apature ie; it only shoots @ F8

guys, look at the name of the guy who posted it, then look at the name of the guy in the first video.
obviously fake. No point even thinking it might be a real product. well made video though.
