how would you like to edit uncompressed HD or SD at 30, 25, or 24 fps at any standard res up to 1080p at 30 fps, with full professional controls like genlock, and ucompressed SDI comprehensive primary and secondary color correction and matching and blah blah all the bells _+ whistles + other pro stuff you want (including support for HDV, and HD DVD and  HD mpg i-frame compression and so on)  and in realtime for both HD and SD,

i have to say .. bravo.. this is a big step above the current products. and im glad to see it happen :)

p.s. what this also likely means, since it is planned to suuport HDV and other formats, is that adobe ppro will likely be offereing HDV and other HD format support as well aside from what HD support it already has... which is good news.. speculative still as of this moment, and any official release, but an educated guess that i would bet on none the less, since matrox is so closely tied to the Adoebe software.

Re: WOW! i guess matrox is getting serious!!

I'm really, really glad to see this come along. FCP has always had far superior hardware support since Premiere Pro came out, this should even it up... unfortunately Matrox is only selling it as a complete system, right (not just a PCI card and BOB).

Pricing?

Re: WOW! i guess matrox is getting serious!!

..as far as im aware, it is a integrated system sale only,, but that is true of most HD realtime hardware solutions such as CINFORMS prospect HD and such with BOXX tech. its time for me to get a new PC anyway though ;).

I wont mind switching the kick butt system this is sure to be on., but it would be nice if it was like the rtx products and you just threw it in your Pc

Re: WOW! i guess matrox is getting serious!!

Yeah, I mean that's the advantage that Apple will always have... you get a G5 and plugin the hardware and (in theory) it works without conflicts because, well, there's only one kind of G5 as opposed to 2309483 different mobos and configs...

Of course many of us know the difference between practice and theory here, but products like the AJA Io or Aurora PipePro, etc. are pretty damn appealing... Premiere Pro (up until this point) had the rtx.100 (prosumer), the DVStorm2 (prosumer and buggy as hell, i'm selling mine), Bluefish 444 cards (expensive, limited PP support), and Blackmagic cards (buggy as hell).

Still, I'm assuming this is going to be pricey... but now, if I want, I can order two of these at work instead of two G5s and FCP... Decisions, decisions...

Re: WOW! i guess matrox is getting serious!!

Wow, that is great! I was hoping that Matrox would come out with something soon. I've always been happy with their products and I think I've owned them all! (RT2000, RTX100 and at work the Full Digisuite as well as the Digisuite LX) Great products... But I do have one question.. now it may be a bit dumb so please be kind...:)

I thought that the 30p and 24p that we shoot in is 480P ? I notice that in the matrox listing they support 525i and 525p?

SD resolutions and frame rates
• 525p at 23.98
• 525i at 29.97
• 625i at 25
• 625p at 24 planned for a subsequent release

Am I missing something or is this the same thing?

Also why do you think they're only selling them in pre configured boxes? They've always sold things seperately too, as I've even built a full digisuite setup before?

Thanks,
Vince

Re: WOW! i guess matrox is getting serious!!

It's the same thing.

An NTSC television actually has 525 "scan lines". A full frame of DV is 720x480, but there are some blanking lines that are also part of the NTSC spec but not part of the visible image. In PAL it's 625 total lines, but only 576 are encoded in the DV spec.

So fear not, 525 and 625 are perfectly accepted ways to say "NTSC" and "PAL"...

Re: WOW! i guess matrox is getting serious!!

Thanks Barry,

I was starting to think I missed something in broadcast school! (Hey, I was only 18 at the time, and there were quite a few 20 something year old beautiful women there to distract me!) I remembered the 525 scan lines, but couldn't figure out why we say 720 x 480.

Anyways, it's good to know that this system will handle so much...again, I just wish it could be a DIY system.

There's also the CC line, which you can see blinking if you ever watch a Closed Captioned broadcast on an underscan monitor.

They also hide that copy protection for VHS up there...what's it called? Macrovision or something? It's been so long since I've even thought about VHS...
