I don't mind a good political discussion. But I'll only have one with people who are secure, informed and open-minded. I know that makes for a small room, but it's worthwhile when you find your mind being changed by logic. A true exchange of ideas is an exhilarating thing. Sadly most people try to overcome their narrow-mindedness by yelling louder and questioning your lineage.

Yeah, I think we've had a couple of interesting exchanges of ideas. I agree with Jim's post.
I think it's important to keep the focus on DVX and filmmaking, and if you look at any "political" discussion from that perspective, I don't see it as a bad thing. For one thing, it won't last long (even my rants about Canadian recording media levies
).
I follow a lot of news and political websites from my old land, and some of the discussion forum attached to them make me sick. Sometimes I read posts that I would be inclined to agree with (especially when they are anti-communist), but the tone and the uncultured expletive-filled hatred that some people put in their post make it really hard to agree with them. I think that's the biggest danger - that people resort to name calling and bigotry, rather than informed and well supported argumentation.
We've been really fortunate on this forum (fora?) that we've been able to put forward differences in opinions in a civilized manner. Maybe the DVX has some magic charm that makes us all happy
.

Problem is, we were getting flame threads spilling over into other areas here, too, and no one wanted to spoil what we have going here.
Personally, I love debating politics and always do so calmly and rationally. Way too many people can't, though. That other board paid the price.

I vote we elect an official representative to defend our way of forums.
Some "person" who will lobby the other forums elected "persons", and instigate a grass roots movement to form a official consensus centering around the possible misuse of public forums.
This group needs to be free of all influence peddling, and grandstanding, and report only to those who need to know, withholding all public disclosure, responding only with the official "forums security issue" should they be pressed.
There shall be a vote, ONLY in the state of Florida, and all results shall be binding on all participants, regardless of race, creed, religion or interest.
Should you prefer to opt out of this group, you shall be entered on the persons of interest forum, and all further matters relating to your past dealings shall be available only to all those who are interested.
The vote shall take place this week, at an undisclosed time, with full results to be made available at the same address at which you placed your vote.
Thank you my fellow forum "persons", your voices shall not be ignored, as denials may be issued in the future.
Remember, we know your IP address.

I have been accused of being all four, I am like a duck, it just rolls off back. I think what happens is people tend to type the first thing on their mind. I do my best to let three or thoughts to process so that i can clearly express myself. Which sometimes the tide turns in the thread and TC has post 10 responses by the time I figure out what i want to say and the thread gets hijacked by John Hudson and we are talking about how fast water really moves over Niagra Falls? This is why I try think about what I post.....because I have no idea what I just wrote. That's why it is in the cafe.
