Would this lens fit onto the Letus Extreme?

"To use it on modern Nikons it has to be modified to AI"
i don't see why not. its AI.

I've got that very lens and it is my favorite to use on the LEX. Much better than a late model AI lens that my brother gave me off his Nikon.

I received it as a high school graduation present from my mom in 1977. She gave me a beautiful Nikkormat SLR and a 28mm lens, too. She was very suprised when I told her I was using the lens with my video camera!

My only issue with the lens is that you can't reverse directions when pulling focus. There is a slight twitch between forward and back when using the Red Rock Follow Focus which ruins the shot. But I'm careful when I use it and set my marks as close as possible so I'm not fishing for focus.

I have just installed the Letus upgrade kit (for HVX) and the new Nikon mount. Both improve the Extreme by a great deal. Well worth the price. I have an HPX that is scheduled to arrive in about two weeks, so now I'm anxiously awaiting the B4 adapter and Ultimate. Still am going to need some better lenses, but for now, I'll keep the Nikkor lens working.

Looks like you got a great deal. Have fun with it!

Hi Mark

Thank you so much for putting me out of my misery as I didnt know whether or not I was buying a lens that I could use. Now all I need to do is get a camera and letus to go with it :)

In fact, you might have bought yourself a wonderful lens. I was told by some very experienced Japanese lens technitians, the early Nikon lens with the silver ring between focus and aperture rings is made out of real crystal. You do not find any crystal anymore.

For 35mm adapter, you do not need additional features such as AI. Just look for the optical quality such as coating, scratches, precision and smoothness.
