Hi, im pretty new here so i have to ask you guys some questions.

Im going to buy a new camcorder and i think the hvx200 is the right one for me. Any way. I got a great deal here in sweden on a hvx200 but a NTSC model. (i live in a PAL land) I think im only going to shoot in DVCPRO HD format. So, should i buy this camcorder?
And if i do im mostly want to get it straight to my laptop.(and a 4 or 8gb P2 card) And know comes the next question. Should i then get a mac or pc laptop?
If i choose the mac its going to be this one:
Specifications
spacer.gif
 • 2.33GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
 • 2GB 667 DDR2 SDRAM - 2x1GB
 • 100GB Serial ATA Drive @ 7200 rpm
 • SuperDrive 8x (DVD+R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
 • MacBook Pro 17-inch Widescreen Display

And if i choose a pc laptop its going to be something like this:

Asus V1J-AJ013P Intel Core 2 Duo T7200 2.0GHz, 2048MB, 120GB HDD, 15.4" Wide, ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 512MB, Windows XP Pro

Because im a student i got rebate on software. I will save seven hundred doller if i go to Avid Media Composer(is for both OS) then Final cut studio 5.
But which of what will i stick to? Is there no difference between those to softwares when i use the hvx200?

Im pleased with any answer!

The Intel Macs don't have the proper PCMCIA slot to off load P2's without the camera. But you can still off load them in-camera via firewire. If its a Mac computer, go with FCP. If it's a PC computer, go with Edius Broadcast. Also, if it's a Mac laptop, get the MacBook PRO. If it's not a PRO model, the graphics card will disapoint you.

Definately the Pro, and the Duel Systems Adapter for P2 will be out next week.
Student Discount on FCP is great!

You can offload your p2 card with that adapter straight to your computer, something all the Macbook Pro users and other laptop owners without pcmcia slots are waiting for...

IMHO this deal is quite risky. What's about warranty? And don't forget - 60Hz DVCPro HD (24/30/60p) is not equal 50Hz HD (25/50p).

jjb is right, I have to second his thoughts. Make sure you buy from an AUTHORIZED PANASONIC DEALER, or you have no warranty, and these puppies can cost a ton of bucks to get fixed!

Great deal on an NTSC model in PAL land? Raises red flags for me...

Definitely be careful when getting a "good deal" on an HVX. There's a lot of scams when these new cameras come out. Any chance you can actually see the camera before buying it?

And be careful not to call the HVX a "camcorder". LOL :) People around here prefer to call the HVX the "Almighty One."
