Would I be welcome here at DVXUser?

There are lots of teens here.

If you're serious about filmmaking and can engage in respectful discussion, by all means, climb aboard and join the fun.

The only folks who we don't want here are those who simply can't get along with others, or who have nothing useful to contribute and who clutter up the forum with arguments and noise and fanboyism and stuff.

Read the rules of conduct, understand what we're about and avoid those things we avoid (such as politics and religion) and we'd love to have you.

We don't look at the age, we look at what you have to "say" as it were. Remember, no question is a dumb question. The only way you will learn is to ask lots and lots of questions. Use the "search" button first to see if you can find what you're looking forward. Enjoy!

There are many veterans on here that are willing to offer friendly advice to anyone. Be respectful of others opinion. Even though you may disagree with what someone has to say, make your point and move on.

The problem with the internet is it can't here the joking nature you may have in your voice and thusly people can get offended by sarcasm, even if you meant it to be good natured.

We will look forward to your contributions and questions in the future.

I registered an account, changed my username once or twice, ditched that account, registered another, made a few posts, and then decided I would just come clean and ask if I am wanted. If it is OK for me to be here, I am going to get my previous accounts deactivated and make a fresh start.

it depends. i'm still waiting on your membership dues. will you be sending me the money by check or money order?

Was listening to the BBC last night as they were covering SXSW and I heard something I really liked - this morning I cant remember the exact words but similar to

Theres no stupid questions as long as everyones trying to do the same thing. And in the case of DVXUser thats be better at what we do.

You can find our forum guidelines here http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?98521-Forum-Guidelines-and-quot-The-Eight-P-s-quot

And remember - before you ask a question try the search function first.

Welcome (back) to DVXUser and use it / contribute to it and grow with it.

It's difficult to tell ages on a forum. What's of more relevance is your maturity level.

Guys, I did some investigation. His first user account he was registered under the name "the comeau".
Welcome aboard.

It's great that you are so interested! Nothing wrong with teenagers involved with film and video in my opinion. When I was in junior high the film bug first bit me. By the time I was 17 I began working professionally as an editor and AE compositor. Now I am 19 with 2 years of film/ video college courses under my belt and have a resume of PAID jobs that is over 5 pages long, and that is just the freelance stuff let alone all the stuff I do for the studio I work for. Get out there and shoot! You will make mistakes, we all do, but learn from them. Don't be afraid to experiment. I rather take the risk of having a great success or colossal failure than to just do the cookie cutter boring shoot that I have done over and over. This dose not apply to jobs with paying customers. ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS do what the customer wants, make suggestions, but know when and when not to offer up ideas.

I joined DVXuser when I was ~15yo. It has had a huge impact on my life. Here are some things I wish I was more conscious of before joining.

1) You are interacting with actual people. This can be easy to forget. Be as nice and respectful as you would in real life. You may eventually get to know DVXusers in person. Some of my best friends and creative partnerships were made through DVXuser.
2) DVXusers tend to discuss the tools of filmmaking more than the craft. This is not a bad thing, but it's important to know. Wonderful discussions about the craft do occur, but you have to look a little harder. I used to waste lots of time obsessing about cameras I didn't need to know about.
3) Be productive. Spend more time making films than you spend talking about making films. You are lucky you caught the film bug so young. Make good use of that opportunity.

I was 19 when I joined, and I've learned more here then I've learned anywhere else.

I don't post very often, I just like to read. There are a lot of super intelligent, camera/movie savvy people here... it's a pretty amazing free resource.

HA! They still let me in here, so not even maturity is a major factor.

40 years old, but act like I am 10 sometimes, well, most times. Hey, I am a kid at heart. I may get older, but dammit, I REFUSE to grow up.

Should be a stickie.
Good to see you "Drew" upon your experiences...

I wanted to throw in my 2 cents. To any future readers when you find your answer, what ever that is, do not remove (edit) the original question. Someone else might have the same question one day.
