Working with HDV in ppro2

I was wondering if anyone had experience editing and exporting native hdv footage in premiere pro 2. I have always used aspect hd for premiere pro 1.5, but I would rather not spend the extra money to upgrade to cineform for ppro2 if it can already do a good job on its own.

The native engine will do a poorer job since it's working with HDV and not the intraframe Cineform codec. Not really Premiere's fault but it's the nature of HDV itself. That's why Cineform offers Aspect HD for version 2.0 as well.

Well I have heard that premiere does a poor job downconverting hdv footage, but if I was just editing native hdv then exporting hdv to tape, there would be no compression or conversion going on, so would I still run into problems?

Instead of just rendering out straight to SD, drop the HD project timeline into an SD one, scale down and just render out normally. The result is way sharper.

I'm not sure what you want to accomplish by going to tape. I've done it with before from Premiere and it works fine. But you still end up with compressed footage on the tape.

Well I am going to be making a dvd project, and basically going to give them a SD copy for now and archive the hd project onto a tape until I have the ability to burn a blu ray/hd-dvd disk (whatever ends up being the status quo).

I am sure that I will be doing some experimenting, but thanks for the comments. It certainly gives me an idea of what I can expect.
