Working with ef lenses on arri amira

Just received the Amira EF Mount which seems to be worth its price in gold. One of the most wanted Amira items at the moment.
Excange of mounts is simple and easy. 4 hex/Allen screws and you are done. Takes less than a minute. The EF mount has electronic contacts too, just like its PL cousin.

I put all the EF lenses that we own through the initial test to check the iris function on the camera.

The mount enables Amira to open and close the iris of EF lenses in full or in 1/8th stop increments via user assignable buttons (this function is shown only when the EF mount is attached to the camera) or with the embedded EVF shortcut via jog wheel. It works well all tested Canon pro lenses that we own (from 14/2.8L to 135/2L plus the 20/2.8 which does not exist in L version and the zooms 16-35/2.8L, 24-70/2.8L and 70-200/2.8L II).

With the 50/1.2L lens the camera shows the widest f-stop value as "f1.0 5/8" which makes sense as this is half way between f1.0 and f/1.4 on Amira's scale.

One big issue we had was with the first version of 85/1.2L lens. First of all, after mounting the lens to the camera you have to flip the AF/M switch on the lens in any direction for the camera to recognize it (this is one of those dreaded Canon "need-power-to-focus" lenses). The issue we had with our 85/1.2L lens was that only the full stop iris clicks worked well, but the 1/8 stop increments mode failed to seamlessly open or close the iris as it got stuck very quickly and would not move even though Amira's display was showing higher or lower values. I do not know if this is the lens' or the mount's fault. I hope a firmware update will solve it.

Also, the biggest disappointment of the day, our amazing Zeiss Distagon 15mm/2.8 ZE lens in Canon EF mount is NOT RECOGNIZED as an EF lens and IRIS CANNOT BE SET on the camera. I presume it is the same with all Zeiss ZE lenses in EF mount that lack the iris ring - the ZF.2 Nikon mount + Canon EF adapter seems to be the way for this Zeiss basic line to be used on Amira.

Canon's Image Stabilizer is NOT supported.

When unmounted from Amira the EF lens' iris is physically stuck at the last used aperture. This means that if you are shooting at f/8 and you change the lens you will get f/8 again after putting that same lens back on the camera.

Please share your EF lenses on Amira experience here!

thanks for the report !
I have a loaner ef mount from Arri, but did not have the time to test it.
looks very solid, but at almost 2k price point I may opt for leica mount plus leica zoom instead.

Do you know if anybody makes nikons mount for the amira?

Update on the Zeiss ZE lenses for Canon on Amira:
We have just received the fantastic Zeiss OTUS 55/1.4 form Carl Zeiss to test and IT DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH AMIRA. You can't set f-stops and the lens is only usable wide open (with or without built-in ND filters).
What a disappointment!

I would give it a few firmwares for ARRI to release lens mapping data for them lenses. I know RED tries to add a few lenses to each firmware so it shouldn't take ARRI long for the AMIRA. Each lens needs a spefic lens mapping so that takes time. Maybe they will come out with a custom lens mapping function like on the RED DSMC cameras.

very late response to this thread. P+S teknic in germany makes a lovely NIKON adaptor which i own.

also, the tokina 11-16 does communicate with the camera.
