Working with 24pA

Hi
I have a couple of questions concerning 24p and 24pa, i know this topic has been adressed a gazilion times before, but i did some searching and i still have some queries.

When I first started using the DVX, i stuck with 24pN because i was running fcp 3 on my little g3 imac. Resently I upgraded (about friggin time) and got a hold of FCP 5.1, so i decided to give 24pA a shot, since many say it gives slightly smoother results, aside from the 24p DVD capability. So here come the questions.

1. Does editing in a 23.98 timeline make effects and titles run at 24p? I noticed one day using magic bullet that the missfire (dust, scratch, old film effects) i applied to my 24pN footage on a 60i timeline would seem Video-ish, while the footage looked film-ish. I supposed it was because the effects would apply to all the fields at 60i, while the video, although running at 60i, emulates 24fps; giving a mismatched look. So, if I where to work on 23.98 timeline with these effects, would this not occur? (i dont have magic bullet for intel macs so havent been able to test it out).

2. I noticed that 24pa, imported with pulldown onto a 23.98 timeline (native 24p), in FCP viewer and even when exported to miniDV (with 2:3:2:3 pulldown export), infact does give slightly smoother motion, wich does show less strobing, but im not sure i like it all that much, I know i am doing the importing right, I have no interlacing, no need to render upon import, it just seems slightly too smooth. Maybe im just crazy, or got too used to stroby 24pN, but i kind of liked the slightly more apparent strobing efect (especially when doing handheld zoomed all the way) and it doesent look the same to me when i work with 24pA. Does anyone feel the same way?

One more thing, is there a difference in between imported 24pN with reverse telecine aplied, and 24pA with the advanced pulldown removal applied uppon import? Any differences in quality?

Thanks to anyone who took the time to read this long post, any awnsers or comments are aprecciated

23.98 is in fact NTSC-DV 24fps. Magic Bullet fakes 24fps, and will never be the same as actually shooting 24fps. As for 24pN, not sure that exists on the DVX100. But either way, 24p is 24p. And you have to be carful shooting moving footage in 24fps, as motion looks very different from 60i. I'd highly recommend Barry's DVX100 book/dvd set. It goes through the issues of motion and 24fps very well.
