Working with 1080i/24P footage for the first time...

I shot footage on my HPX170 as 1080i/24P. (not PA)

I exported it using P2CMS. I then Logged and Transferred it in FCP.
Looking at my clip properties of my captured footage, it says it says it's compressor is 1080p/30. Is that normal? Is it right? Do my capture presets matter when logging and transferring or not really? Should I change my capture presets to something else and re-Log and Transfer?

Now, what should my sequence be set to? I'm assuming 1080/60i. The footage looks normal in this setting. It wanted to set it to 1080p/30 but I wouldnt let it.

Now if I wanted to straight export Quicktime Movie (no quality loss, etc.) what should I set it to? EXPORT>QUICKTIME MOVIE , then change the settings to DVCPRO HD 1080P 24?

All this 1080i/24 stuff is confusing the hell out of me.

I know you said it was shot as 24P but in the Browser, when you right click to get the format settings, does it also say 24p?

No, it's 29.97. I changed Log and Capture settings to record it as 24PA (which it isnt), and the clip still says it's 29.97. I thought that all 1080p footage comes across as 29.97 and you had to do some stuff to make it work properly.

The footage in my 1080i/60 timeline looks perfectly fine, however, no matter how I export it it's got interlacing. I dont know what I should be exporting it as, 24p, 60i, etc.

There is another thread just like it in the HVX forum. Cross posting usu. gets mixed bag results.

My answer to you was to remove the 2:3 pulldown. Advanced pulldown is removed by FCP automatically during log-and-transfer.
The closest tool available for you is FCP's Cinematools (though clunky should do the trick real well.)

If the camera was set to 1080i-24PA during filming, then you have some other problems with the FCP setup.
If the camera was set to 1080i-30 and set into FilmCam mode so it reads 24P on the display, then you got yourself a 1080i60 with 24P embedded in it.
When I am looking in my Log and Transfer, it already has the remove pulldown checked. Are you saying I should uncheck it?

Looking on my camera is 1080i/24P, set in FilmCam mode.

I'm pretty sure it doesnt matter what my Log and Transfer is, apparently it all comes over the same way. Is there nothing I can set in FCP so its not interlaced? Do I need a 1080/30p timeline, or should I be using 1080/60i? I dont mind it being interlaced in FCP, as long as my final product comes out normal.

I cant buy Cinema Tools.

I have an older version of Cinema Tools, but have no clue how to use it. I've exported my imported clips in FCP just straight out, and will open in Cinema Tools and see what I can do. Should I just edit my full project in FCP, then afterwards export and import into Cinematools? No point in really using it before I'm done my editing is there?
